The Heart Pounding Road Ripping Dodge Magnum SRT8

The Heart Pounding, Road Ripping Dodge Magnum SRT8
By Matthew Keegan

Thanks to the Chrysler Groups relationship with Mercedes both companies are owned by DaimlerChrysler the automaker markets a successful group of full size, rear wheel drive cars powering the Dodge and Chrysler brands. Tapping Mercedes technology in the form of their suspensions, rear differentials, and automatic transmissions three vehicles, including the Dodge Magnum, are now gracing North American highways with their cant miss presence. The Dodge Magnum wagon, as the first vehicle based on the LX platform, has successfully erased most peoples concept of what a station wagon should be. With its menacing front end, rakish body lines, and abundant hauling capacity the Magnum is no mere mom mobile instead, the car is a true sport wagon. Taking that theme to the extreme is the Magnum SRT8, the ultimate fusion of sport wagon and muscle car.

When it comes to engines, Magnum owners have plenty of choices. From the 2.7L V6 powering the SE, to the 3.5L V6 found underneath the hood of the SXT, to the explosive intensity generated by the 5.7L Hemi V8 that comes with the sporty R/T, Magnum owners have a variety of choices not found in many vehicles of its class. Thinking that some Dodge fanatics would want even something more powerful than the R/T, the brand released the SRT8 in 2005 which features a 6.1L Hemi V8 that bangs out an extraordinary 425 horses and 420 lb.-ft of torque. Add on the 20 inch aluminum wheels, firm up the suspension, and equip the model with bigger brakes and you have one untamable Magnum!

Even with its added luster, the Magnum SRT8 isnt keeping Dodge devotees from pimping their rides to help them achieve the look and feel that they want. Some popular, highly desirable aftermarket parts for the Magnum SRT8 include:

Cool/Cold Air Intake Systems If you want even more horsepower and improved torque, then an air intake system for your Magnum is in order. Airaid and Dub Air are two brands that have effectively created systems that have been specifically made for your Magnum SRT8. With the Airaid you have a choice of two models; the premium version comes with a Ram air scoop for added good looks. Both Airaid systems bump up horsepower by 14 and torque by 17, while the Dub Air produces near equal power improvements as well. Enjoy the throaty tone of an air intake system with your SRT8!

Performance Exhaust Systems The Magnum SRT8s exhaust system is adequate, but a Magnaflow Exhaust maximizes performance with its cat-back design and stainless steel properties. You get a rich exhaust tone, see horsepower and torque increase by 16 and 19 respectively, and you get a lifetime warranty with your Magnaflow exhaust system. Yes, the same stainless steel used by Boeing and Airbus in their jets is the steel that is used by Magnaflow.

Of course, many enthusiasts are installing both the performance intake system and the exhaust system to help them achieve the ultimate driving experience that a Dodge Magnum SRT8 can possibly offer to them.

Yes, there is nothing station about the Dodge Magnum, a car with the potential to effectively haul people, haul stuff, and to haul ass!

The New York Times Receives Dodge Sprinter PHEV

The New York Times Receives Dodge Sprinter PHEV
By Lisa Ziegler

As a part of a commercial fleet performance demonstration and technology evaluation process in the state of New York, DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group division has selected the New York Times, one of the leading newspapers in the United States and the major news media in New York as the first entity to receive the first medium-duty plug-in hybrid vehicle.

The company received the Dodge Sprinter plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and will be used as a transportation unit to bring New York Times newspapers from the printing plant in College Point, Queens to the companys headquarters in Manhattan.

We are proud that The New York Times is the first major entity in the State of New York with a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle in our fleet, said Tom Lombardo, Vice president, Production, The New York Times. When we were approached by NYPA and DaimlerChrysler, we knew immediately that we wanted to be involved. We are delighted to be supporting the use of clean energy, sustainability and advances in plug-in hybrid technology. he added.

Alliances such as this are necessary for new technologies to move forward. The daily operation of The New York Times Dodge Sprinter plug-in hybrid will give DaimlerChrysler the valuable real world experience needed for hybrid powertrain and lithium-ion battery development. said Mark Chernoby, Vice President Advance Vehicle Engineering, Chrysler Group.

To make the Dodge Sprinter PHEV possible, DaimlerChrysler, the New York Power Authority (NYPA), Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and Con Edison collaborated to bring the vehicle to New York Times. The collaboration also aimed to evaluate plug-in hybrid technology to be used in the real world driving environments.

According Timothy S. Carey, President and CEO of NYPA: The New York Power Authority has a long record of green initiatives to help improve air-quality in the New York City area and we are fully committed to putting emission-free and reduced emission vehicles on the Citys streets. We are especially pleased to help demonstrate a hybrid electric vehicle that is so versatile you can plug it into the house to charge it up. In the future, vehicles like this one could be used to power a house in the event of a power interruption.

Meanwhile, Randolph S. Price, Vice President for Environment, Health and Safety, Con Edison also commented: Con Edison's research and development group recognizes the potential that hybrid plug-in electric vehicles have to make a profound impact on the environment. Electric vehicles have the potential to dramatically lessen our country's dependence on foreign oil and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As the electric supplier for nine million New Yorkers, Con Edison is on the lookout for new, environmentally friendly applications for the electric grid.

Unlike Chrysler Group's Jeep vehicles equipped with a monstrous engine and Jeep starter, the clean diesel engine aboard the Dodge Sprinter PHEV is combined with an advanced lithium-ion battery. The energy can be replenished by plugging the vehicle into a conventional 220-Volt electric outlet. The Dodge Sprinter PHEV also features regenerative breaking, which adds up to the vehicles fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

The New York Times To Obtain A Dodge Sprinter PlugIn Hybrid

The New York Times To Obtain A Dodge Sprinter Plug-In Hybrid
By Lisa Ziegler

The New York Times is going to be the first on the East Coast of the United States that will receive the first medium-duty plug-in hybrid which is the first of its kind in the New York State. This is part of a commercial fleet performance demonstration and technology evaluation process that is being conducted by DaimlerChrysler.

The van which is a Dodge Sprinter plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is going to be housed at the New York Times printing plant in College Point, Queens. The said van is going to be used to transport New York Times newspapers to The Times headquarters in midtown Manhattan and also to different locations in New York area. The van will also be used as a means of transport to The Times plant in Edison, N.J.

The Dodge Sprinter plug-in hybrid was a joint venture between DaimlerChrysler, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the New York Power Authority (NYPA), and Con Edison. The partnership was formed to test and assess plug-in hybrid technology in a real driving environment. DaimlerChrysler maker of Jeep vehicles and all its components like Jeep seat covers is the first automaker to test plug-in hybrid technology with the participation of customers within the United States. EPRI research and studies shows that the fleet applications provide the perfect opportunity for initial demonstrations of plug-in hybrids.

According to Tom Lombardo, Vice President, Production, The New York Times, We are proud that The New York Times is the first major entity in the State of New York with a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle in our fleet. When we were approached by NYPA and DaimlerChrysler, we knew immediately that we wanted to be involved. We are delighted to be supporting the use of clean energy, sustainability and advances in plug-in hybrid technology.

Randolph S. Price, Vice President for Environment, Health, and Safety, Con Edison said, Con Edison's research and development group recognizes the potential that hybrid plug-in electric vehicles have to make a profound impact on the environment. Electric vehicles have the potential to dramatically lessen our country's dependence on foreign oil and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As the electric supplier for nine million New Yorkers, Con Edison is on the lookout for new, environmentally friendly applications for the electric grid.

Plug-in hybrids are vehicles that can operate in all-electric or hybrid mode. They possess larger batteries compared to traditional hybrids which enable them to travel long distances by means only of electricity. The Dodge Sprinter plug-in hybrid has a battery that allows it to travel 20 miles. For short urban routes with a lot of stop-and-go driving the vehicle can function for most of the day with zero-emission. And when in hybrid mode the vehicle performs like a traditional hybrid with improved fuel economy and lower emission that is comparable to a conventional diesel or gasoline vehicle.

Tricking Out Your Dodge Ram SRT10

Tricking Out Your Dodge Ram SRT-10
By Matthew Keegan

There are pick up trucks on the road and then there is the Dodge Ram SRT-10. Take one already powerful truck and add in a Viper engine and you come away with a vehicle that is truly the king of its class. DaimlerChrysler got it right when they decided to morph its popular Ram into a true road warrior able to haul people, stuff, and beat just about any car on the road. If you own a Ram SRT-10 you already know what I mean as you spend your time tricking out your truck for even more performance and enhanced looks. Before we go on, please note that there are two versions of the Ram SRT-10: one is the standard two door cab and the other is the quad cab. For arguments sake, well look at both Ram SRT-10 models as one.

Without exception the 510 horsepower 8.3L V10 is one powerful engine. For the faint of heart, the Ram SRT-10 just isnt for you, but for the Dodge aficionado this steroid enhanced Ram more than meets your every fantasy. Or does it?

As it is with every performance oriented vehicle, a host of aftermarket parts have come along to enhance the driving experience. What, isnt the Ram SRT-10 enough of a performance statement? For some drivers that answer is yes, but for others that answer is clearly no.

Passionate Ram SRT-10 owners are enhancing their rides with a variety of popular aftermarket products including:

Air Intake Systems A cool air intake system such as the Volant Air Intake for the Ram SRT-10 is a hot selling item. Volant claims that you will receive a horsepower boost of 28 while adding 42 lbs. of torque to the rear wheels. Working with your trucks engine, an air intake system helps to free up trapped air to allow the engine to operate more efficiently without adversely impacting fuel mileage. Enjoy more power and take in that awesome intake tone!

Cat-back Exhaust Systems Another area where power is inhibited is through your vehicles exhaust system. A catalyst back [or cat-back system such as one developed by Magnaflow Exhaust will boost horsepower and free up torque with its dual rear exit 3 mandrel bent stainless steel system and 4 slash cut polished stainless steel tips. The racecar rumble you hear coming from underneath the truck is truly a welcome bonus!

Computer Enhancements The factory settings for your Ram SRT-10 are good, but they could be better. A Custom Computer Flash ECU can replace the stock computer with one that has been aftermarket enhanced. What that means is a simple swap out of your current computer with a new one which will result in more horsepower, better torque, and improved throttle timing for your truck. All you have to do is submit your SRT-10s VIN #, modifications, and mileage and a custom designed ECU will be shipped to you.

If these aftermarket parts arent enough then there are always lowering kits, performance air filters, exhaust headers, and traction bars to consider, so why settle for less? Indeed, there is little to stop you from customizing your Dodge Ram SRT-10 to perform the way you want it to run even among other enhanced trucks in its class.

2008 Dodge Avenger to Debut in NASCAR

2008 Dodge Avenger to Debut in NASCAR
By Benjamin Hudson

This year's season of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, specifically the first ever NASCAR Car of Tomorrow (COT) race will be the stage for the racing debut of Chrysler Group's all-new 2008 Dodge Avenger. After several test drives for the 2008 Dodge Avenger, the team is now heading in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee to put the car on its first racing appearance next week, followed by 15 other racing events of the NASCAR Car of Tomorrow.

Mike Accavitti, Director of Dodge Motorsports and SRT Marketing, Chrysler Group said:Dodge is ready for the challenge at Bristol, and we think the Dodge Avenger is the car to beat. We believe that the Avenger can bring Dodge a championship in the future, and we cant wait to start that campaign this weekend.

And, for the first Dodge driver to win a COT race, we will donate an all-new Dodge Avenger to the charity of his choice, he added.

The 2008 Dodge Avenger is equipped with a Word Engine that offers an improved fuel efficiency and low exhaust emissions without affecting the car's powerful performance. The 2008 Dodge Avenger also comes with quality interior parts like those VW GTI parts found on the VW GTI model.

The drivers of major Dodge teams are excited on the racing debut of the new 2008 Dodge Avenger. They are pleased to join the 2008 Dodge Avenger at the NASCAR Car of Tomorrow racing events. Here is what they said.

David Stremme, driver of the No. 40 Coors Light Dodge:

You can test it all you want, but were not going to know what were really dealing with until we race it. Some of the guys have been complaining about it, but Im anxious to race it. Anything can and usually does happen at Bristol, so it should be a very interesting race for the competitors and a very entertaining one for the fans.

No. 2 Miller Lite Crew Chief Roy McCauley:

With the Avenger theres a large window of opportunity, and the people that do their homework the most will exploit that window of opportunity initially. The garage area is full of the smartest racers in the world, and they will catch up. Everybody will catch up, but I think a couple of cars will be dominant initially because theyve done their homework ahead of time.

Elliott Sadler, driver of the No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge and former Bristol winner: I think were all excited about getting the Avenger on the racetrack for the first time and to carry it to Bristol of all places, were definitely going to test its durability and how it holds up under pressure. Bristol is an action-packed race, and its always a tough race. Being the first COT race in the history of NASCAR makes it even more exciting.

Everybody will bring their best stuff. You want to get started on the right foot. The Avenger is a great tool. We feel like Dodge has done a great job giving us everything to work with correctly. Hopefully, we can put it all into motion and have a good weekend. he added

Kasey Kahne, driver of the No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge:

That will be the first bigger track we have with the Avenger. Its going to be an eye-opening weekend. Its going to be tough to make that car work there. Its going to be much different than what its been in the past, but Im looking forward to the challenge. I think Darlington is going to be a bigger change in the way cars run than Bristol. I think Bristol will be similar to what its been in the past with the COT, and Martinsville will be similar. Darlington will be a big change, and thats when all 43 drivers and teams will figure out the cars are a lot different than what weve been racing.

Lastly, Kurt Busch, driver of the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Avenger who won last years Food City 500 commented:

I just always get a spring in my step when we come back to Bristol. I enjoy this place like no other. At this place, 500 laps is without a doubt the hottest ticket in NASCAR. Were definitely excited about the Dodge Avenger and what it can do for our team. Having the first COT race at Bristol will be just like jumping into a full tank of sharks and swimming around with them. Itll probably come down to survival.

Looking Forward for the Dodge Caliber

Looking Forward for the Dodge Caliber
By Shane Carter

Starting next year, 2007, Daimler Chrysler would be sending off on the streets and roads the new Dodge Caliber. This vehicle is a compact car and it would be coming with a hatchback body style. Aside from that, it would hold five doors. This vehicle has been built on the Mitsubishi/Daimler Chrysler GS platform, and for this very reason, it has been said that this vehicle is very much related to the Jeep Compass and the Jeep Patriot. When it starts to hit the streets, the Dodge Neon would be mainly competing against the Chevrolet HHR, the Ford Focus, the Toyota Matrix, the Mazda Mazda3, and the Pontiac Vibe.

The Dodge Caliber would eventually be replacing the Dodge Neon come the time it hits the streets. More or less, the size of this vehicle would be just like the Dodge Neons. The 2005 Geneva Motor Show became the avenue for Dodge to introduce this compact vehicle to the automobile market. The Dodge Caliber holds a crosshair grille as well as large wheel arches that are very much the common features of Daimler Chrysler vehicles. If you are interested in purchasing one, then you should be willing to pay up some $13,985 for this.

George Murphy, the companys senior vice president for global marketing, states, Dodge Caliber is not your typical small car. The all new Dodge Caliber redefines the compact car by combining crossover styling with space efficient packaging, interior flexibility, innovative features, and affordable performance. Caliber allows owners around the globe to be active, do more and stand out to live life to the fullest, and do so at a very competitive price.

Matt Liddane, the chief engineer for the Dodge Caliber, adds, Dodge Calibers spacious interior is also very versatile. We combined styled and comfort with innovative features and clever packaging to create a vehicle that gives new meaning to functionality in the compact car market.

Auto Accessories Giant provides Dodge owners, aficionados, and followers with a complete line of the highest quality Dodge accessories like Dodge Neon accessories. These accessories are highly dependable and proven to be made from quality material.

2006 Dodge Viper: Endangering the Competition

2006 Dodge Viper: Endangering the Competition
By Joe Ratzkin

Entering the automobile world in 1992, the Dodge Viper has had undergone many changes as well as many obstacles. This year, 2006, the Dodge Viper is already on its third generation of vehicles. This time around, the vehicle is introduced as an all-new coupe.

Dan Knott, the director of Street and Racing Technology (SRT) for the Chrysler Group states, Demand for a Dodge Viper Coupe started the day we introduced the Dodge Viper SRT10 Convertible for 2003. The all-new 2006 Dodge Viper SRT10 coupe is a natural evolution of the heritage of the Dodge Viper, and gives enthusiasts exactly that theyre looking for in the ultimate American sports car. He also adds, Dodge Viper SRT10 customers want to go beyond the level of the regular enthusiast, to the level of outrageous performance. Our all-new 2006 Dodge Viper SRT10 coupe gives our customers that performance in a stunning new package.

The most obvious change for this new vehicle is that it now holds the aerodynamic double bubble roof. This roof holds a unique shape that provides a smooth airflow over the vehicle as well as assists in accommodating a large amount of space inside. Other new things for this new 2006 Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe include the door glass, the rear quarter panels, the integrated rear spoiler, and the wraparound tail lights. It is very much similar to the original Dodge Viper GTS coupes look but this new one owns up to a more contemporary flair. Also added in are a set of unique alloy wheels which measures 18 inches for the front end and some 19 inches on the back.

The 2006 Dodge Viper SRT10 coupe holds an 8.3 liter all-aluminum motor that works with ten cylinders. This engine has the power to produce some 500 horsepower and around 525 pound feet of torque. To help it all up is a six speed manual transmission.

Backing up Knotts statement regarding this new vehicle, Trevor Creed, Chrysler Groups senior vice president for design exclaims, It was important for us to sustain the emotion in the design. We wanted the 2006 Dodge Viper SRT10 coupe design to include a nod to the original Viper GTS coupe, but in a contemporary way. The Dodge Viper SRT10 coupe owner is often a racer, and the car has to scream that, even when its idling at the stoplight. The bottom line is that the new Dodge Viper SRT10 coupes design says a lot about its unique character, and the cars performance is the payoff.

Duramax vs. Cummins vs. Powerstroke A matter of Sexuality?

Duramax vs. Cummins seems to be the question on everybody?s mind. Let?s be honest Duramax vs. Cummins, has never been the real question, neither has Duramax vs. Powerstroke or Cummins vs. Powerstroke in any of these debates. For the most reasonable answer to these questions that I have found I look back to the teachings of a wise professor. A Philosophy teacher I once had was discussing what he had found to be the main causes of homosexuality after years of being a counselor for school districts and at the local prison, he said that they were genetics, environmental and hormonal. Might I be so bold as to say that it really doesn?t matter who makes the truck or how durable the components are in the truck are but the real answer to the question Duramax vs. Cummins or Powerstroke vs. Cummins or Duramax vs. Powerstroke is what did your father drive (genetic) where did you grow up, what did the people around you growing up drive, what do your current friends drive (environmental), and what body style really ?does it? for you (hormonal).

Another factor into this question that my professor went over was the fact that men are attracted to form rather intellect, so just as some men are attracted to women that chew (Powerstroke Owners) men will be attracted to different trucks based on how they look to them. Another factor that I think can fall in line with this is how does the truck make the man look to the ladies? Have you ever noticed how when you are in a parking lot and you see a huge Power Stroke pull into the parking lot with a 12 inch lift and 35 inch Super Swamper Boggers on it and then it will park and out pops the 4?5? driver in his wranglers and a belt buckle that is almost as tall as him. Then you catch a glimpse inside the cab of the truck just before he closed the door and you can see the seat up as far as it can go and sometimes, not all the time, but sometimes I swear I see a stack of phone books. I don?t know what it is but it is the strangest phenomenon, I think that factors into the whole form thing as well, the fact that the men need to feel secure about themselves, maybe they missed the memo that the new Jeep Liberty?s have a nice little diesel in them as well, and they wouldn?t need a ladder to pull themselves up into it.

Now I hope you don?t think that this is it and that I am going to leave you hanging. You know I would never do that my friends. I will be back soon enough with some factual base and research that has been done over the past several years I will include dyno results for max horsepower, shop transcripts for history of what make had which problems etc.. But for now stick with my theory of the three degrees of Trucksuality.

This is an old Scottish saying on one of the events that children and teenagers look forward to year after year. Halloween. And this is the time when people who would love to be what they really wanted to be can dress up the part. You can most certainly see various versions of Frankenstein monsters, Darth Vaders, faeries, princesses, goblins, ghosts, and other creatures.

However, it is also very important to note that during such an event, many people also do get involved in car crashes, collisions, or accidents. After all, you should keep in mind that when Halloween night is on, many children who are going trick or treating usually choose to wear black and scare other kids. And the Michigan American Automobile Association, or AAA, does remind parents and guardians to be extra cautious about where their children are going. With that, Jack Peet, the manager of Community Safety Services for Michigan?s AAA, says, ?The risk of becoming a pedestrian fatality increases four times during Halloween.?

As a motorist, it is important that one should go through neighborhoods much slowly than usual. Being on the alert for small children in black darting about shadows would also do you much good. Sure enough, if you would take much notice, these children would be running from house to house if they can all because they are excited about the thought that they are getting more candy. However, what they do not seem to remember is the fact that by crossing the street, they could get hit by oncoming vehicles.

Now if you are a parent or a guardian of a little kid screaming to go trick or treating with his or her friends, the best way would be for you to actually go with your little one as he takes in the Halloween fun. That way, you yourself could check about his safety and make sure that he does not get struck by Dodge auto parts on careening down the street on its wheels.

2006 Ford Focus: Never Better!

Back in 2000, the year that the Ford Focus was introduced, Ford Motor Company was hoping that the model would be well received and exceed the sales totals of its previous small car, the Escort. Unfortunately, the new Focus was plagued by various minor quality problems and the car soon became the joke of the industry. Step forward to 2006, and the current Focus is vastly improved on earlier models. Let?s explore what is helping the Focus become a proven challenger in the crowded small vehicle sector:

1. Aggressive Price. Yes, the number of cars available under US$15,000 continues to drop each year. However, the Focus takes it one step further as it retails just below $14,000. Comparably equipped Chevys, Kias and Hyundais sell for nearly the same amount, so the consumer has a good choice when buying the Ford Focus.

2. Sufficient Power. The 2.0L I4 engine paired to a five speed manual transmission gives the car enough power to get it moving and keep it moving at a nice clip on the freeway. Competing models offer smaller engines as small as 1.6L as found in the Kia Rio.

3. Spacious Interior. Up to five people can be carried in the Focus and the interior room is large for a car in its segment. Most small cars are intolerable for big rear seating passengers, but not so for the Focus. Compare the Focus? seating to the Cobalt and the Focus is the clear winner.

4. An Assortment of Body Styles. Most cars built today come in only one or two body styles, however the Focus features four: a three-door ZX3 hatchback, a five-door ZX5 hatchback, a ZX4 sedan and the ZXW wagon. It is the ZX3 that retails for as low as US$13,990.

5. Respectable Fuel Economy. With EPA figures of 26 city / 34 highway, the Focus achieves a fuel mileage level that few small cars can boast of.

Competition in the small car group remains tight with the Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Cobalt, Hyundai Elantra, and Saturn ION all competitively priced. The Corolla remains the favorite amongst industry specialists, but the Focus has certainly shed its ?low quality? status with the current model. Check out special financing deals through Ford Credit to save even more money on your Focus.

In conclusion, the Focus has improved with age, but it is in need of updating now that it is in its seventh model year. With Ford fortunes sagging, the company cannot afford additional dips in sales.

Will Renault Return to the U.S.?

Back during the 1980s Renault cars, in alliance with the now defunct American Motors Company [AMC, were sold at American dealers. Once Chrysler purchased AMC, Renault retreated and quit selling cars in the US. A recent announcement by Renault that the U.S. market may once again be a candidate for Renault cars has been met with only tepid enthusiasm by the automotive press. Will Renault return? More importantly: does anyone care?

Renault's exit from the US during the late 1980s was hardly noticed by most consumers. As makers of the tiny LeCar, the compact Alliance, and the midsize Medallion/Eagle Premier, not much distinguished Renault from the competition.

Today, Renault is quite a different company with a very different outlook and product line. Ever since its purchase of the Nissan Motor Company, Renault's focus has shifted from a predominately European stage to a global stage. With Nissan technology incorporated into many current vehicles, Renault quality and reliability levels have risen. This is good news as Renault previously was criticized in the US for building poorly made cars. Better made cars than AMC, but not rising to the quality level that many had expected.

Press reports indicate that Renault will tackle the Chinese market first before even considering the US...if ever. Is it because Americans remember the poorly made Renault products of the past that is behind the company's hesitancy to reenter the market? Or, could it be Renault's perception that America doesn't much like the French right now?

We don't know for sure, but I am guessing that it is a little bit of both. Regardless, a high quality affordable Renault automobile would be a welcome change to the junk sold here a generation ago. Let's hope that Renault has learned a valuable lesson from Nissan on how to build and sell a top quality product. If so, then bring them here.

You Can Custom Fit Your Vehicle

Part of the fun of owning a car is giving it your own look. Sure, some cars come fully equipped with all the bells and whistles, but they lack one thing: your personal touch. Starting back in the 1950s when customizing cars really took off, enthusiasts have been modifying their cars to suit their own purposes. Let?s take a look at some ways you can make your car a real stand out.

Under the Hood: The most obvious customizing for your engine compartment is a cold air intake, designed to increase power to the engine. A cold air intake changes the appearance of your car?s engine bay with custom colors such as rad red, silver, chrome, powder coated blue, and more.

On the Hood: Hood protectors, also known as car bras, will give your car a bold, aggressive, and cool look. Other ideas include installing hood scoops and vents.

Up Front: Fender flares, bumper protectors, front fascia, and head light covers are all the rage. Add in custom fitted fog lights and you have a real show stopper on your hands.

To the Sides: Paintable rear side window covers will distinguish your model from all cars out there. Paintable side skirts are another crowd pleaser.

Bringing up the Rear: Altezza style tail light lens assemblies, which are available in chrome or paintable black. Some motorists are opting for paintable or blacked out tail light covers too for that special look. Adding a spoiler or a rear skirt are two additional awesome looking accessories for any car.

Under it All: Performance exhaust systems are all the rage. They are expensive but worth it in many driver?s eyes. Increased performance, a better look, and a million mile warranty are some of the appeals of this mod.

On the Inside: Who said floor mats or floor liners have to be boring? Custom fitted Highland floor mats or Husky cargo liners give your interior a clean, sharp look and protect expensive carpeting and flooring. Seat covers, shifter knobs, and gauge covers are all popular add-ons with owners today.

To the Wheels: Some cars are now custom fitted with wheel spacers which permit wheel stance to be widened, thereby improving handling. Wheel dust shields are also popular to help keep alloys and tires clean.

So, there you have it. Manufacturers of custom fitting accessories have been burning the midnight oil to bring to you products that can truly change the appearance of your car. Indeed, some models -- including the Honda Civic -- have over 200 custom designed accessories available. The more popular the car, the more likely your choices will be greater.

2006 Dodge Viper: Endangering the Competition

Entering the automobile world in 1992, the Dodge Viper has had undergone many changes as well as many obstacles. This year, 2006, the Dodge Viper is already on its third generation of vehicles. This time around, the vehicle is introduced as an all-new coupe.

Dan Knott, the director of Street and Racing Technology (SRT) for the Chrysler Group states, ?Demand for a Dodge Viper Coupe started the day we introduced the Dodge Viper SRT10 Convertible for 2003. The all-new 2006 Dodge Viper SRT10 coupe is a natural evolution of the heritage of the Dodge Viper, and gives enthusiasts exactly that they?re looking for in the ultimate American sports car.? He also adds, ?Dodge Viper SRT10 customers want to go beyond the level of the regular enthusiast, to the level of outrageous performance. Our all-new 2006 Dodge Viper SRT10 coupe gives our customers that performance in a stunning new package.?

The most obvious change for this new vehicle is that it now holds the aerodynamic ?double bubble? roof. It is very much similar to the original Dodge Viper GTS coupe?s look but this new one owns up to a more contemporary flair.

Backing up Knott?s statement regarding this new vehicle, Trevor Creed, Chrysler Group?s senior vice president for design exclaims, ?It was important for us to sustain the emotion in the design. We wanted the 2006 Dodge Viper SRT10 coupe design to include a nod to the original Viper GTS coupe, but in a contemporary way. The Dodge Viper SRT10 coupe owner is often a racer, and the car has to scream that, even when it?s idling at the stoplight. The bottom line is that the new Dodge Viper SRT10 coupe?s design says a lot about its unique character, and the car?s performance is the payoff.?

You Can Improve Your Car's Power!

I can hear it now from the Prius loving, gas sipping, and bike riding crowds: a more powerful car is environmentally irresponsible. Balderdash! Not that anyone should care what others think of them, but this thought pattern is totally incorrect. Thanks to advances in automotive technology, virtually every performance part on the market will yield greater fuel mileage for your car as well as give you more power. A true win-win result; let?s take a look at four powerful performance enhancing parts for your vehicle.

1.Power chips and programmers. Whether your replace your car?s computer chip or enhance it with a power programmer, in either case you will achieve noticeable gains in horsepower and thrust. By overriding the factory limitations imposed on your vehicle you can get more power for a small amount of money.

2.Reusable air filters. Now this is a part that the tree huggers love: air filters which can be used over and over again. That?s right, no need to clog up our landfills with paper filters once a year. Instead, air filters built for race cars can be put in your car and reused. Your engine breaths better and better breathing engine sucks up less fuel. Guess what? Your fuel economy improves!

3.Cold air intakes. That growl coming from underneath your hood is your engine telling you that it loves its new air intake. Designed to suck up colder, denser air a cold air intake delivers the ?fuel? that you engine wants. Again, your engine runs smoother and fuel economy increases. The best part? A cold air intake is an awesome looking addition to your engine bay!

4.Performance exhausts. Yes, your stock exhaust system just doesn?t cut it. For starters, it works against your engine and not with it. Specifically, power flow is inhibited and your engine works harder and sucks up more gas in the process. With the wider pipes found in a performance exhaust system you can get more horsepower, achieve greater torque, and watch your fuel economy rise as your engine and exhaust work in harmony.

What many motorists do not understand is that some stock parts are not the best parts for your car. Manufacturers, in an ongoing bid to save money, will often opt for those parts that cost less to hold car prices down. Unfortunately, your car is the biggest loser as power is restricted and fuel economy drops. With the right parts installed by you the trend can be reversed without significant increases in exhaust pollution; your car will still pass its emissions test and it will runner faster and more efficiently.

Of course, the big question is this: aren?t performance parts expensive? They can be if you do not shop around. Visit the web site of a trusted online wholesaler and compare prices. Do the work yourself and your saving will more than cover the cost of having someone install stock parts for you.

You Can Select A Quality Car Cover

Maybe the thought of owning a car cover sounds a bit ridiculous to you. After all, you typically keep your car garaged, right? Besides, who wants to have an ugly tarp draped over a car anyway? Not you! Car covers serve a purpose even for the person who keeps their vehicle sheltered most of the time. Let?s examine the benefits of owning a car cover and how you can go about selecting one that is right for your car.

Keeps the bird poop at bay If you leave your car outside, there is a nemesis that takes aim at your car...birds! Yes, birds are all right, but their excrement is not. If you don?t wash it off right away, your car?s finish can be damaged. Some bird poop is so damaging that even a buff and wax job won?t completely restore the finish. A car cover will catch the poop before it does permanent damage.

Better than sun block While we humans can slap on sun block, no finish can completely do the work of protecting your car. Better to have your car covered over instead of exposed to the sun?s damaging rays.

Not so shady So, you think keeping your car out of the sun by parking under trees will help, do you? Not so fast! Whereas most sun rays may not get through, your tree loves to drop sap, buds, leaves, sticks, and branches...right on top of your car. Some car covers are thick enough to help your car resist those small branches that fall from time to time and take aim at your car!

Who goes there? Funny isn?t it when you own a nice car everyone likes to peer inside to check it out. Leaning and rubbing up against the car?s body can scratch the finish in no time. Besides, do you really want everyone gawking at your car?s expensive audio system? I don?t think so!

Rain, rain go away Some car covers offer top protection by keeping rain, snow, ice, mud, dirt, and dust away. Yes, even if you park your car in the garage, dirt, dust, and indoor pollution can take their toll.

Follow the bouncing ball Your neighbor kid loves to whack his soccer ball around...too bad that it takes dead aim at your car. A quality car cover can withstand small ?insults? that can scratch or dent the body.

So, how do you select a car cover? Well, for starters what do you want from a cover? Some covers offer minimum protection and will absorb bird poop, tree sap, and diminish the sun?s rays, but not much more. On the other hand, certain car covers made of four layered breathing material offer the most protection. Even better are those heavy duty car covers that come with side mirror pockets. Why are they a good idea? Well, they offer a snug fit and are crafted with the exact make/model of your vehicle in mind. No worrying that your car cover will work loose because it isn?t fitted properly.

Yes, a car cover can be a great idea even for the garaged vehicle. The whole goal of owning a car cover is to protect your vehicle?s finish and then some. Not all car covers are alike, so do some comparison shopping for the one that is best for your car. Oh, by the way, there is no ?one size fits all? car cover [you want one custom sized to your vehicle's dimensions. If someone tries to sell you one, you would do better to run to your home supply store and findng a tarp for your vehicle!

What Is a Nerf Bar?

A nerf bar is one that is going to add to the classic look of a truck, any truck that has an open bed. A nerf bar is going to be made of plastic, metal, of rubber, and can include the color of any you may like. A nerf bar is one that is going to be up the sides of the back of the bed of the truck, and the bar will come across the top of the cab. If you have ever seen people in the back of a truck, holding on while the truck is speeding down the dirt road, that is a nerf bar, but most nerf bars are for display and not for holding on really!

A nerf bar is also going to be the bar that is on the side of the truck that you step up on to get in the truck. Not only are nerf bars included on trucks, but you will also find them on blazers, on explorers and all types of SUVs that are a little taller than the average car. A truck or SUV with a nerf bar on the side to get up and into the truck is going to be made of some type of heavy metal, often times they are round, or they can be flat, but if looks like a long bar along the side of the SUV or truck.

Nerf bars are also the types of bars that are connected to the truck on the front or rear of the vehicle. A nerf bar is going to make the truck or SUV look tough, feel as if you are driving something that is invinsible, and at the same time it is going to add that flair to the truck or SUV that no other is going to have. The nerf bars on the back or on the front of a truck are for show only; they are not going to do the same protective things that a bumper will provide for the vehicle. A nerf bar on the front of on the back of the vehicle can be made from metal, plastic or it can be made of a combination.

The nerf bar on the back, the front, up in the bed of a truck or along side the truck are all going to be paintable. Most all are made of a material that are paintable so that they will match the vehicle that you are driving. The only ones that are not paintable will be the chrome type of nerf bars that will be added to the vehicle. The chrome types of nerf bars are meant to be shiny and clean, and will not hold paint well at all. Aluminum, plastic, and even the metal nerf bars can be painted, and they will then match the rest of the vehicle.

Your Truck's Tonneau Cover

When I purchased my first truck, a showroom new 1985 Ford F-150, it was a basic offering needing some serious upgrades. One of the first products I purchased was a snap-on tonneau cover that adequately covered the truck's eight foot bed. Although I did not have the truck for long, it proved to be one of my favorite add-ons and it actually saved me some money. If you're shopping for a new tonneau cover there are some important things for you to keep in mind before finalizing your purchase. Let's take a look at five of them.

You get what you pay for! A tonneau cover can be had cheaply or it can cost you a small fortune. In the middle area, where most consumers shop, there are several reasonably priced models that are durable, long lasting, and attractive. Some covers look cheap -- and they are, while others look expensive -- but they really are not. Generally, you will pay less for a soft-top tonneau cover than for a hard-top cover, so it becomes a matter of personal preference which style you decide to buy.

They are easy to maintain. Quite true! For the most part, if you are washing your truck, you will clean your cover the same way. However, do not use the car tire or dashboard cleaning agents on your cover. Manufacturers such as for the Extang Tonneau Cover will have specific care instructions for you to follow. Your local auto supply store should carry products specifically designed to help you clean and shine your tonneau cover.

You will reap security dividends. Even a soft, non-locking tonneau cover is better to have on your truck bed than no cover at all, as tempting items are kept away from thieves' eyes. Still, if you carry valuable merchandise, consider a locking, hard cover version. Covers such as those offered by Truxedo Tonneau Cover can meet your security requirements.

Resale value will be strong. If you take good care of your truck and outfit it with a premium tonneau cover, you will be able to command a good resale value when it is time for you to sell your truck.

Decent fuel savings. With gas prices surging, one way you can save as much as 10-15% at the pump is to have a tonneau cover installed. Wind drag is greatly reduced when your tonneau cover is securely in place.

Most tonneau covers come with a one year limited warranty, which should be adequate for you. Your online auto parts supplier can provide detailed information about product offerings, care/maintenance, prices, shipping/handling information, and more.

I hope you enjoy your new tonneau cover as much as I enjoyed mine!
