MercedesBenz CClass Made Even Classier

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Made Even Classier
By Dwayne Thomas

Mercedes-Benz has recently launched its all new C-Class saloon in Germany and will be presenting the same C-Class in South Africa in August this year. The C-Class emphasizes three elements and these are comfort, agility, and safety.

Each of the Avantgarde, Elegance, and Classic lines emphasize a unique characteristic but share the same technologies such as the Agility Control package which includes a situation-sensor shock absorber control, an Intelligent Light System with five distinct functions and the Pre-Safe preventive occupant protection system. The new C-Class range is also equipped with the same quality auto components such as Mercedes Benz heater core. The Mercedes heater core is a small radiator that helps the primary radiator in cooling the coolant to prevent the possible overheating of the car.

The local specs are to be announced at a later stage and some options may differ from overseas markets. For the overseas theres a choice of four and six-cylinder engines with up to 13 percent more output than the previous model coupled with a six percent lower fuel consumption.

The C-Class Saloon has a length measuring 4581mm and approximately 55mm longer than its predecessor. The body width has also increased by 42mm to 1770mm while the wheelbase has an additional 45mm to 2760mm. these dimensions have enabled the front shoulder room to grow by 40mm.

The design of the new C-Class was derived from the modern Mercedes-Benz approach that includes taut lines, and large tranquil surfaces with the front end highlighting a pronounced wedge-shape. And for the first time in Mercedes Saloon, the radiator grille was used as a distinctive feature to make the model variants more visible in the market.

The sporty Avantgarde model features three extended, horizontal louvers and a big centrally positioned Mercedes-Benz star. The Elegance for its part gets a three-dimensional, louvered radiator grille with a high-gloss paint finish which accentuates comfort and luxury. The Classic model as the name suggests has designed that is traditional despite the fact that it is similar to the other two C-Class models in terms of ride and technical specs.

The engines of the C-Class have been increased by around 18 percent in torque while the four and six cylinder units also feature an improved smoothness. Great attention was also given to the further development of the four-cylinder mills. In the petrol range output of the entry-level C 180 Kompressor has been increased from 105kW to 115kW with maximum torque improved 4.5 percent from the previous 220 to 230 Nm, while the C 200 Kompressor develops 15kW more than before.

It also delivers an output of 135kW and revs up a maximum torque of 250 Nm from 2800rpm. It can sprint from 0 to 100km/h by 0.5 seconds faster that any of the previous models. The new C-Class were also made more economical, the C 180 Kompressor consumes 0.31/100km less than the before. On the other hand the combined fuel consumption of the C 200 Kompressor has been reduced by 0.51/100km.

The C-Class diesel option will focus on enhancement of the four-cylinder unit. There are already several improvements done to the engine, turbocharger and common rail direct injection altering more than 90 components in the process. The said modifications were done by engineers at Stuttgart. And as result of the conducted modification is a new C 220 CDI with a peak output of 125kW from the 110kW previously and delivers a potent torque of 400Nm from the previous 2000rpmagain an 18 percent increase power than before. Similarly fuel consumption has been further reduced by up to 0.31/100km and according to Mercedes Benz the C 220 CDI is capable of traveling 100 km on just 6.1 liters of fuel.

The C-Class offered in Europe remains unchanged with a choice of three petrol units developing 200kW, 170kW, and 150 kW. The new C 320 CDI with its six-cylinder engine has an output of 165 kW. All models in the new C-Class except for the C 350 are equipped with a six-sped transmission featuring Agility Control gearshift as standard. Instead the C350 will get a 7G Tronicthe worlds only 7-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment. This feature is also available for the rest of the six-cylinder C-Class models on request.

07 Number Plates Go On Sale

07 Number Plates Go On Sale
By Adam Croft

James Bond fans will have a lot of fun finding new number plate combinations, with some examples including AO07 FAN surely the ultimate plate for any James Bond fan. Other interesting combinations include SH07 GUN and the rather raunch HO07 ERS. Meanwhile, CL07 HES, CL07 HED or LE07 ARD would be an ideal piece of marketing for anyone running a clothing business, and BR07 HER would make an excellent gift for a wonderful brother.

The new UK number plates system came into force in 2001, when the end of the old prefix series was reached. The first two letters in the new series of registrations are the area identifier. Each issuing authority will have its own area identifier(s), which denote the area in which the number plate was issued. The two numbers which follow are the age identifer. The first digit relates to the month in which the registration was issued 0 is March, whilst 5 denotes a September issue. The second digit refers to the year of issue. So, KC56 means the number plate was issued in Luton in the September 2006 allocation. The last three letters are a purely random combination.

For more information on the UK number plate system and on number plates in general, you may want to take a look at the number plates club at Numberplates.com. Is There Such A Thing As A Trustworthy Mechanic?

Is There Such A Thing As A Trustworthy Mechanic?
By Kim Oxford

At some point everyone needs a mechanic for their car, and it's hard to find a trustworthy mechanic. However there are steps you can take to help you choose the lesser of all evils when it comes to who repairs your transportation. In the end you need to be able to trust the guy repairing your brakes, putting on your tires and monitoring your fluids.

Trusting Dealerships
Many of us just throw our hands up and take our car to the dealership when we have problems with them. If you consider that they are the experts when it comes to your specific make and model it's a smart option, unfortunately it's also a pricey one. When it comes to rare vehicles and some imports it is probably advisable to stick with dealership expertise. Same if you hold an extended warranty purchased from the dealership, at least be sure to stay within their approved mechanic circle to ensure you do not void any part of your warranty.

In reality most of us don't drive rare imports and don't want to pay the extra money the dealership will charge us. This coupled with the less than average customer service that many experience at the hands of any dealership service department make a trip there for repairs nothing short of a horror movie. Never fear, there are other options.

Chain Service Shops
There are many chain shops to choose from, which is confusing if you consider that many times mechanic shopping is done under duress. Give yourself peace of mind and research your mechanics before your car breaks down, so when something goes wrong you already know where to take it. Chain mechanics can be tricky, some franchise locations may employ better mechanics than others under the umbrella of the same name. This is generally a trial and error process, so if you find one you think you like, be sure to always have a plan B.

Neighborhood Mechanic
Not all of us are lucky enough to be in the car business, or even know anyone with any mechanical skill. However, many times a local neighborhood mechanic can be your best bet. Often they are mom and pop shops and that makes every customer an important one. This can also mean much more personalized service from someone who wants to get your future business. Lacking the impersonality of chain store mechanics just working for their hourly, this option may cost more than the chain stores do, but could just prove to be worth it in the long run.

No Matter Where You Go, Do These 3 Things First

Finding the good stuff is never easy, but if you follow the few simple steps below you can at least start off with the best to choose from

1. Look them up with the Better Business Bureau. Right away you can eliminate mechanics who have had negative reports filed about them. Our lives are busy, if someone took the time to report them, they aren't worth a second glance.

2. Utilize organizations such as the ASE, start off with options that are well endorsed.

3. Ask your friends. Everyone knows how hard it is to find a trustworthy mechanic, so be sure to ask around. Usually people are happy to share a good mechanic, lets keep the good ones in business folks.

Lease VS Buy A Car Always Lease It First And Save Money

Lease VS Buy A Car, Always Lease It First And Save Money
By Ralph Hoffmann

Lease a Car First and Buy it Later
Save lots of money. Analysis about buying or leasing a new car isn't necessary as long as cars are a glut on the market.

To own any car for the least possible price and dread doing a lease vs. buy analyses, don't buy the car; lease it then buy it later and save a lot of money.

Exploit the Glut of Cars for Sale
As long as car production is greater than consumption, and big discounts are available for several years to come, just read the market trends and lease it first and ignore all those lease vs. buy programs.

In the past, car manufacturers moved cars by subsidizing leases. The monthly lease cost was lowered by increasing the residual value, which lowered the monthly lease payment, thereby selling (leasing) more cars.

Lease Residual Values are Inflated in your Favor
But the value of the vehicle at the end of the lease was almost always less than the contracted residual and each of the off-lease cars then had to be sold in the wholesale market at a loss of several thousand dollars.

Some of the big backers of lease financing, Chrysler, some New York banks, and others, each lost several hundred million dollars in each of the past two or three years because they had to sell the off-lease cars on the open market for less than the residual value.

Take Advantage of Too Many Cars for Sale
Therefore the buy or lease a new car decision is moot as long as manufacturers are subsidizing leases because they have too many cars to sell; a one-time opportunity is present, namely:, lease it now and buy it at a discount the end of the lease and save thousands of dollars.

Having to make a lease vs. buy decision is no longer necessary as long as supply exceeds demand and the old rules are now dictated by a surplus of cars< on the market, this is the time of opportunity for an car buyer.

Compounding the problem for the heavily unionized manufacturers is that their labor contracts are so juicy that those car manufacturers are better off continuing to give away cars rather than to close a plant and pay unaffordable health and welfare and pension benefits to laid off employees.

This Opportunity will only last for Two or Three more Years.
This situation will not change for several years until consolidation, plant closings, or bankruptcies have cured the problem. until the. Plant closings will be a last resort.

Therefore the glut of new cars will likely continue for a few years. Now is the prime time to consider taking advantage of a declining resale value of most cars. The subsidized lease will continue to be offered

Should I Buy or Lease a New Car
By initially leasing a car, the maker is essentially offering a price that cant be beaten. It may actually approach or be lower than the employee cost widely advertised. Then buy the car at the end of the lease.

At the end of the car lease the company financially backing the lease most likely will sell the car on the open market at a loss. Why not intervene at that point and buy the car for less than the residual value and put that loss into your pocket as money saved?

Check out your Car's Used Car Value Prior to Lease End
About three months before the end of the lease, cruise the used car lots and notice what your car is being offered at. Note tha the used carprice is always higher than the resiudal value to allow for dealr costs and profit. A ten percent cushion is not unreasonable.

Then compare the asking price on the used car lot with the residual value in your lease contract. The residual value may be larger than the asking price for a similar model on the used car lot. That means that the company owning your leased car will have to sell it at a loss when you turn it in.

Now you put in the knife and buy the car (no commissions paid to anyone on this transaction) at the end of the Lease and keep several thousand dollars in your pocket.

Bypass the Dealer to make your Buyout Offer
From your dealer, get the phone number of the company that owns the car you leased. Call them and offer to buy your leased car for the asking price on the used car lot less about 10% at least.

If they object, point out that they will have to sell the car at a loss because the residual value is more than what the car is worth on the used car lot. They know that, but hate to admit it.

So lease the car of your dreams today and forget about excess mileage charges.

A true-life example
A business friend of mine had a three-year-old leased car with a contract residual value of $28,000. Looking at the used car lot he found he could buy one just like it for $24,000. He assumed the company that financed the lease would loose at least $2,000 in selling it for less than the contracted residual value.

Through the dealer he offered $22,000 to buy the car as is and his offer was promptly accepted, including 3%, 3 year financing. His dealings, all by phone (no face to face negotiations needed) were with the company financing the lease. To buy any car, or Van or SUV or Light truck, by all means consider the idea of lease vs. buy as your answer.

Honda Accord Coupe 2005: The Weekly Driver Review

Honda Accord Coupe 2005: The Weekly Driver Review
By James Raia

Just inside the guard gate, the world renowned 17-Mile Drive in Carmel, Calif., begins with a primarily downhill and often winding two-lane road to Pebble Beach Golf Links. The tree-lined route features lavish, oceanfront homes and a predominately forest-like setting along California's central coast.

It's a perfect several-mile locale for drivers who like to shift through gears. And it's not-so-surprisingly pleasant while doing so in the 2005 Honda Accord.

With its V6, six-speed manual transmission offering, the exceedingly popular model crosses categories. The Accord is listed as a midsize vehicle and it's often compared to the Chevrolet Malibu, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry.

But the 24-valve, 3.0-liter, 240-horsepower coupe is just as much sports car as it is anything else. And it provides one more reason why the Accord in its more than 25 varieties is among the most popular and most often best-buy categorized vehicles on the road.

During my weeklong test drive, I drove the Accord Coupe round-trip from Sacramento to the Monterey Peninsula. The interstate portion of the journey included about 400 miles. I drove the aforementioned section of the 17-Mile Drive six times round-trip on clear, blue sky days and in heavy rain. It made little difference.

In all driving conditions, the Accord Coupe performed with confidence. Steering and handling is responsive and poised. Lane changes are smooth. While not as quick as other vehicles categorized as sports cars, the Accord Coupe accelerates well and finds its ways through gears more than adequately. Its 17-inch wheels further add to the tight road feel. The Accord's ride is also adequately quiet.

Like all Hondas, the Accord Coupe's interior is designed in a straightforward manner. Gauges and all instrumentation are clean and used simply. The navigation system is likewise efficient and easy to learn.

Despite its coupe status, front-seat passengers have comfortable leg, body and head room. Back seat passengers (two fit comfortably) have easy access. Side rear-view vision is slightly impeded by headrests and side pillars. The driver's seat, while comfortable for a six-foot, 185-pound driver, is void of the superior seat cushioning of high-end vehicles.

Standard interior features are plentiful: leather-trimmed seats, AM/FM, six-disc CD with six speakers, XM satellite radio, heated front seats, power window and door locks, illuminated visor vanity mirrors, cruise control, exterior temperature gauge, sunglass holder and well-positioned armrests and storage compartments.

Finding fault with the Accord is difficult, but cargo room could be better, and average city mileage numbers aren't special. Yet, the Honda Accord has built its reputation through the years for good reasons. It does everything well, and offers reliability and great resale value.

Whether a buyer opts for the base LX four-door, four-cylinder sedan, the EX V6 four-door sedan or the EX, V6 coupe, the sportiest model of all, it's hard to improve upon the Accord or find any vehicle with more to offer for the price.

Safety features Dual-stage driver and front passenger dual-stage front, side and side curtain airbags. Antilock brakes.

Fuel Mileage (estimates) 20 mpg (city), 30 mpg (highway).

Warranty Bumper to bumper, 3 years/36,000 miles; Power train, 3 years/36,000 miles; Corrosion, 5 years/unlimited mileageBase price $28,880

Dukes Of Hazzard 1969 Dodge Charger Star Car Sold For $9900500 On eBay

Dukes Of Hazzard 1969 Dodge Charger Star Car Sold For $9,900,500 On eBay
By Steven Farber

The most famous Star Car in television history is the orange 1969 Dodge Charger R/T called the General Lee. This car was the star of the mid-to-late 1970s television show called the Dukes of Hazzard and was part of America's redneck culture that featured fast cars, Daisy Duke, moonshine, hicks, and dense lawmen.

On Friday May 4, 2007 at 10:02 AM a recent version of this 1969 Dodge Charger R/T sold on eBay Motors (eBay auction item 250108256198) for $9,900,500.00. That's right folks, a cool 10 million dollars.

This car did not appear in any of the TV shows but did appear in a movie called The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood released in May 2000. John Schneider described the title as Dukes Go To Hollywood in the eBay listing. Also in the eBay listed was an image that indicated the General Lee was from John Schneiders personal collection and was built in December 1997 and was #4 of 4. Other images of the General Lee can also be seen in the eBay listing. The most important feature of this car is that under the hood are the autographs of all the living original cast members and crew that were on the TV show.

Most of us dont have 10 mil to spend on a Dukes of Hazzard 1969 Dodge Charger R/T but you can make your classic look and sound like one.

The original General Lee's landing gear were American Racing Vector SE Series 47 rims. American Racing has again introduced the classic vintage Vector SE Series 47 wheels. These rims had the style and appeal that brings back memories of the 1970s and the 01 General Lee. What could be more appropriate for your classic car than a set of American Racing Vector SE Series 47 rims.

The General Lee would not have been complete without its horn. The horn plays Way Down South in the Land of Cotton and is now known as the Dukes of Hazzard car horn. So announce your arrival or departure boldly with this popular salute to the south!

Dodge Sets Free A Roadster Demon With Soulful Attitude

Dodge Sets Free A Roadster Demon With Soulful Attitude
By Anthony Fontanelle

Ever wondered how the Dodge could transform into something wicked and devilish when it comes to roadster performance? Anticipation is soon to end this coming March at the Geneva Auto Show which would be held in Switzerland as the automaker intends to unravel the Dodge Demon - a sporty little rear-wheel-drive concept roadster.

How do you gauge a sporty roadster demon? It should be artsy, diabolical and a true dare-devil roadster. This formula is expected to create radical results among auto aficionados. That formula and more are resorted to by Dodge to create a compact, nimble and sporty roadster with soulful attitude. The roadster balances the classic sports car appeal with simplicity, modern design and performance to pave way for above-average vehicle.

For the very first time, the Dodge Demon will be flaunted at the International Motor Show in Geneva next month. While the iconic Dodge Viper is a dream car for many, the Dodge Demon is designed to be an attainable dream car, said Jae Chung Dodge Demon Principal Exterior Designer for the Chrysler Group. The exterior design is simple yet bold, featuring an energetic combination of curves and intersecting planes.

From the outside, the stunning temptress shows off its voluptuous bodyside that features flowing lines and curves. The lines flow up and over the front wheel of the roadster then drop diagonally to the rear fender. It directs cooling air to the rear brakes and EBC rotors. In addition, the compound rear fender surface curves up and over the rear wheel, reaching the trapezoidal taillamp. The latter uses sport translucent red inset lenses to blend the LED back-up lamps.

The distinct Dodge signature is mirrored in the Demons crosshair grille which is stuffed with aggressive opening that is thrust forward. Other artsy features of the roadster concept include the projector headlamps, elongated angled triangles and black chrome bezels that serve as Demons eyes. To add a brand new drive feel Dodge entertained a hinged hood aura.

In the manner of timeless British sports cars, the interior of the Dodge Demon is purposely functional, not frivolous, said Dan Zimmermann, Dodge Demon Principal Interior Designer. Everything relating to the driving experience is emphasized, while that which is not is made visually secondary.

Zimmermann added, The well laid out instrument panel, for example, is familiar, yet modern. Everything you really need the gauges, circular AC outlets, radio is encapsulated in a cross-car brushed aluminum bezel that also accentuates the width of the cabin. Secondary controls and features, such as the HVAC knobs and the passenger-side glove box, are located below this bezel.

The Dodge Demon brings forth lots of promises. From auto parts quality, performance, style and drive feel the automaker ensures that the Demons features could make it a hot-selling car. The Demon features open-spoke design, 19-inch brushed aluminum wheels, playful planes, silver and black manual shift knob, leather boot, silver and chrome bezel ring, and more. These features contribute to the roadsters fun-to-drive attitude. Each of these features is set flush, or nearly flush, with the bezel surface so as to establish a clear zone for the drivers shift arm in all seating positions, with nothing in the way of the driving experience.

Dodge does not intend to mass produce the roadster as early as this year. However, it will be considering the reactions of the consumers to warrant a feasibility study. If the concept will be produced, the automaker will be offering it with a base price similar to the Mazda Miata and the Pontiac Solstice.

Dodge Ram Air Intake : More Air for More Power

Dodge Ram Air Intake : More Air for More Power
By Joshua Zimmer

Decades have passed, and still, Dodge proves to be one of the forerunners of the auto industry. This is aside from the fact that age-long industry know-hows are coupled with precision craftsmanship that drives the company to utter excellence in their field. With each Dodge vehicle coming out of its assembly lines is a long-time assurance that it has passed the most rigid tests around, comprising the industry-exceeding parts and accessories for the maximum satisfaction of its customers.

Tracing from its humble beginnings, brothers John Francis and Horace Elgin Dodge have started out an auto company called Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company in 1914. Initially choosing 50 dealers from hundreds of applications, they began building motor trucks by 1917 - which was used by the United States Army during World War I, then went on commercially after the war.

Like the heavy performance of the Dodge Ram truck, Dodge vehicles are known for their powerful performance. Sure enough, its components are meticulously installed and scientifically made with the toughest materials possible to withstand extreme conditions. With the rugged personality of the Ram, it is imperative to have power-inducing parts greater than the usual to compensate for its horsepower needs. Such a power-inducing part is the cold air intake. In the combustion process in an engine, air is needed to burn fuel. Colder, denser air has more oxygen for more efficient combustion process. And to burn more fuel means more power for the engine to pack on to the cylinder. The cold air intake performs the role of a feeder to enable the Ram's engine for more horsepower and torque. This process is even more efficient as the air filter (a multi-layer cotton gauze with urethane body, then through a smooth aluminum duct to reduce the drag losses in the airflow which is an excellent filtration and great power-boosting intake charge) is relocated outside the engine compartment. At the same time, it saves on fuel mileage. And as the Dodge Ram cold air intake brings cooler air outside to the engine, the hot underhood air is ingested by the factory systems.

Cold air intakes like the ones installed on the Dodge Ram may vary in style. It may be made of plastic, metal, rubber (silicone) or composite materials (fiberglass, carbon fiber or kevlar). Because of the limited time air actually remains inside the intake tubing, the materials often do not impact a kit's ability to deliver cool air. Basic cold air intake replaces the stock airbox with a short metal or plastic tube leading to a conical air filter, or a Short ram air intake. The power gained by this method can vary depending on how restrictive the factory airbox is. The placement of the filter is usually directly in the engine compartment. Other improved intake designs utilizes heat shields to isolate the air filter from the rest of the engine compartment, providing cooler air from the front or side of the engine bay.

Advanced designs, or often called Complete cold air intakes, deliver air from outside the engine bay, usually from the wheel wells, front grill or a hood scoop. The intake can be placed such that the forward motion of the car pressurizes the air coming in, creating a ram-air intake. These intakes often require additional modifications and can require body modifications or replacement panels, such as a replacement am air-style hood. Complete Cold Air intakes are able to convert to short ram intakes. During the winter season, you can convert your cold air into a short ram intake.

With the off-road performance of the Dodge Ram, its cold air intake is sure to provide increased airflow and ambient temperature to add more horsepower and torque to your ride, even at critical times. It is an integral part of Dodge's commitment of serving utmost satisfaction for motorists. And this kind of dedication remains untarnished through time.

A busy 32-year old market analyst that has a kind of fetish for anything and everything about electronic gadgets. A single father with two sons, Joshua is also fond of putting accessories and mods (such as Dodge Ram Air Intake) that could fit well to his 2003 Dodge Ram.

Is The Dodge Ram 3500 Turbo Diesel For You

Is The Dodge Ram 3500 Turbo Diesel For You
By Dennis Estelle

I havent ridden in a Dodge Pickup Truck for several years. I was pleasantly surprised recently when I got to ride with a friend. There have been some major changes since the late 90's, that's for sure.

Remember the Old Days with Diesel?

Most people equate a bit Ram 3500 Turbo Diesel Pickup truck with noise, dirt and discomfort. Boy are they wrong! The Ram 3500 Turbo Diesel is a pleasant surprise. It's as quiet as can be inside the cab and the truck takes you down the highway in smooth comfort. The Ram 3500 is powered by a 6-cylinder 5.9-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine that delivers 325. Its 4-speed automatic transmission has a handy Trailer Mode setting to help minimize those annoying up and down gear changes that take place when you're pulling something behind you.

Killer Good Looks

Just one look at the Ram 3500 tells you it's a real work truck -strong body lines, big wheels and tires, heavy duty rear springs and high ground clearance. The only problem seen here is that you might want to leave the wife or girl friend home, or add on some custom step bar. Of course that's a good rationalization for a custom upgrade. But the Ram 3500 Quad Cab Turbo goes well beyond functional to pull double-duty as a truck that can move two rows of passengers in decent comfort.

The Ram's paint finish and chrome trim are as good as you'll see on any mid to upscale car. The quad cab model is beautiful and you won't have any fight with the family if you want to carry them to church on Sunday in real style.

You'll love the pair of heavy duty tow rings that'll come in handy for pulling or being pulled. A look at the back of the Dodge Ram reveals the rigid factory bedliner that protects the bed from scratches and dings, and under the tailgate is a towing package with a Class IV receiver hitch and wiring plug. Lets just say, if you are serious about towing power and you want a REAL diesel, the Dodge Ram 3500 is for you.

Getting Pumped With Dodge Power Programmers

Getting Pumped With Dodge Power Programmers
By Andrew Bernhardt

The best thing about body building is that its the only hobby you never put away. Fishermen stash their rods and tackle in a shed, bicyclists hang their steeds on a rack in the garage and knitters shove their hooks and yarn into a basket and slide it under the bed. If you see these people without their gear, you have no way of knowing what fires their passion. This however, does not hold true when it comes to body building. You can put the kidney belt away, shove the Bow-Flex in the closeteven stash the Thigh-master; but the bulging muscle always go where I go.

But hey, Im not some simple muscle-head. When it comes to getting my swoll on, its more than developing prodigious pecks and gargantuan glutes. I also like to pump up the physique on my truck. Just like body building, hot rodding my truck is something I just cant put away. Even if Im out for a Sunday cruise, all that powerall that muscleits always there, ready to display. In fact, there happens to be more than a few similarities between these 2 extreme hobbies.

The deep, throaty tone that rumbles from my dual exhaust pipes is just like me tearing up a muscle-tee with my 25 guns. Those extra-wide tires scream strength and stability, much like the frightening bulge of my thunderous thighs. And, the stylish bumper on my Dodge Dakota R/T serves much the same purpose as shaving my back and slathering up with oila true testament to unbridled power. Much like my obsession with relentless body sculpting, I cant seem to stop pumping up the power on my Dakota.

The other day my fellow workout partner and hot-rod devotee, Johnny Thunder, turned me on to a new product. This is the closest thing to anabolic steroids for my truck that Ive ever seen. Much like roids, you just plug in to get instant results. Im talking about the Hypertech Power Programmer III. This hot little unit mainlines my Dakota R/T with a straight shot of go-juice; powerful enough to make Lou Ferrigno lose his lunch. Im talking the power and poise of Charles Atlas here. With the Hypertech in the R/Ts OBD port and a dumbbell in my hand, we are an unstoppable team.

Speaking of mainlining, I also installed a set of Venom performance injectors to feed that thirsty 5.9L Magnum engine. This little kick-in-the-pants added a whole new dimension to my morning commute, or work out as I like to call it. I get to the gym a hell of a lot faster now, giving me more time to sculpt my abs and forearms and giving the R/T more time to bask in the glare of envious stares.

The amount of power produced by this potent aftermarket cocktail is simply unimaginable, just like the power of my massive, python-like triceps. Now, I cruise around flexing 2 kinds of musclemy well-toned beefcake flesh and my well-tuned American steel. We are here to pump you up!

Dodge Magnum Changing Dodge's Brand Image

Dodge Magnum - Changing Dodge's Brand Image
By Sarah McBride

One of the brand names of automobiles and light to heavy duty trucks that is marketed by the German yet American-based company DaimlerChrysler AG is the Dodge. The Dodge was purchased by Daimler-Benz along with other Chrysler subsidiaries in 1998, and is now a part of the DaimlerChrysler company. As per last year, the Dodge brand has become popularly known for its production of its trucks which takes up around seventy-eight per cent of its sales.

The Dodge Magnum, as a name, has previously been used on quite a number of various Dodge automobiles. The new Magnum is the first car under the Dodge name to use the new Chrysler LX platform that it shares with the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Charger. As per last 2004, the Dodge Magnum was revived as a station wagon. It has been made available with three engine options. The SE has the 190 hp, 2.7 liter LH V6. The SXT owns the 270 hp, 3.5 liter V6. And lastly, the RT features the new 5.7 liter Hemi V8. As per last year, it has also been made available with an all wheel drive on its SXT and RT models. One of the things that the new Dodge Magnum and the Dodge brand has to be proud of would be its being included on the Car and Drivers Ten Best list for 2005.

This new vehicle has easily won the markets heart compared to its predecessor, the Dodge Intrepid. One of the plans that Dodge has for the Dodge Magnum is for this vehicle to go on sale as a police variant so as to compete against the Ford Crown Victoria. These plans for the vehicle would be only made available to law enforcement, emergency agencies, and also government agencies. It will have the SXTs V6 for its motor and the Hemi as its option. It will also take with it police-specific options like a steering-column mounted shifter, deactivated interior rear windows and locks, and also bulletproof glass that would be mounted between the first and second rows of seats and its cargo area.

The Dodge Magnums bold shape could redefine the American wagon for the new generation. It carries with it an aggressive signature grill, a broad-shouldered stance, and a cut-down greenhouse. It has an extreme access liftgate at its rear that includes a portion, thus increasing access to any cargo. Its interior, meanwhile, can take in five passengers with easy comfort. The driving position is considered to be excellent, commanding, and comfortable. As per its instrumentation, it is quite legible and arrayed intelligently. It also offers a host of advanced occupant-protection features that includes multi-stage front airbags and available side curtain airbags for its front and rear seats.

Although the new Dodge Magnum is not as spacious as midsize SUVs and has a limit on its cargo space due to its shape, these are quite overcome by its nice 3.5 liter, V6 engines and its Hemi V8s. Also, it has the quiet, composed ride that drivers love and it also is surprisingly agile for its class. Options for this vehicle include a power moonroof, heated seats, front- and rear-seat side curtains airbags, power seats with leather, and power-adjustable pedals.

Dodge Challenger To Be Built At Brampton Plant

Dodge Challenger To Be Built At Brampton Plant
By Katie Jones

DaimlerChrysler earlier announced that the 2008 Dodge Challenger will be built at its Brampton Assembly Plant near Toronto.

Reid Bigland, the President and CEO of DaimlerChrysler Canada, said, It's good news that the Dodge Challenger will be added to the Canadian production line-up. Quickly bringing desirable new products such as the Dodge Challenger to market is critical to keeping our plants humming and our dealerships busy.

Before, the Brampton plant manufactures vehicles like the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and the Dodge Magnum and the plant also works on three shifts. Now, it will be joining the Dodge Challenger in its auto repertoire. Production of the Challenger will start next year. Preparations to ready the plant, the production of Dodge body parts, and other facilities for the Challenger are now underway.

Brampton is our first plant to demonstrate the ability to build four models on one line, said Frank Ewasyshyn, the Executive Vice President for manufacturing of the Chrysler Group. As we continue to expand our new model lineup and further implement our flexible manufacturing strategy, other facilities will also have this capability, he adds.

The Dodge Challenger concept was showcased at last years North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). The production version, on the other hand, will be true to both its classic and modern origin. So far, the Challenger is the first coupe to be manufactured on Chrysler Groups large car platform. The coupe will be sharing a similar platform with the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and the Dodge Magnum.

The new version is engineered to become a two-door, HEMI V-8-powered, rear-drive vehicle that will boost its ancestors drive feel and capabilities. The company has placed a clock along with the concept car to do the count down to the unveiling of the production version of the Dodge Challenger at the Chicago Auto Show in 2008.

Our speed to market means that Challenger production is now measured in only days, said George Murphy, the Senior Vice President Global Marketing, Chrysler Group. The ability to quickly react to ever-changing consumer tastes is a competitive advantage for the company.

Dodges clock reflects anticipation and it will just a little time before the new Challenger will be available in dealerships. Moreover, the company has already seen ardent feedback to the Dodge Challenger. With its bold and powerful charisma, no Dodge enthusiast or auto aficionado, for that matter, would ignore its radiance. As a fact, 1.5 million visits are recorded on the Dodge.com Web site in 2006 and 20,000 potential customers have asked the company for more product information regarding the all-new Dodge Challenger.

More Machismo For The 2009 Dodge Ram

More Machismo For The 2009 Dodge Ram
By Glady Reign

The second generation of the Dodge Ram made the pickup truck one of the most popular pickups in the market. Marketed for the 1994 model year, the Ram is designed with the iconic grille which gives the vehicle its aggressive look. The popularity of the Rams grille has, in fact, set a benchmark for its competitors. This is where Chrysler took an advantage over its American competitor like General Motors and Ford. From that model year to the 2007 model year, the Dodge Ram has been known for that iconic nose and its power. Recently, the 2009 model year version of the Dodge Ram was spotted and its manufacturer has divulged some information concerning the upcoming version of the Ram.

The 2009 model year version of the Ram is designed using some style concepts used on the Dodge Charger sedan. The nose of the 2009 Dodge Ram looks like that of the Charger. This makes the iconic nose of the Ram even look more aggressive. The gunsight grille which is the staple of the Dodge Ram design for the past years is still present. The headlight configuration is similar to previous Rams. In relation to its grille, the headlight of the 2009 Ram is lower. The body and the rear of the 2009 Ram is unchanged. But since production of the 2009 Ram is still far off, it is possible that there will also be changes made to the rear and body of the Dodge Ram like the Dodge Ram pickup nerf bar.

One thing that the Ram must contend with is its competitors which will be making their presence in the market felt even before this Ram goes into production. One of its strong competitions is the GMC Sierra. The Chevy Silverado is also popular among truck buyers as well as the redesigned Toyota Tundra. Ford is also expected to come out with a redesigned F-150 which is expected to come out after the 2009 Dodge Ram makes its debut in the market. The popularity of the F-150 among truck buyers may cost the Ram significantly in the market. Even if the Ram is considered as the best looking in its family, buyers may tend to wait for the release of the redesigned F-150 instead of buying a Dodge Ram unit.

To increase its appeal among truck buyers, Dodge is expected to give the Ram the same 4.0-liter V6 engine that is being used by the Dodge Nitro SUV. The said engine will give the Ram 260 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. That power will go a long way to make the Ram a strong contender in its class.

Dodge Avenger and Nitro Headed for the UK Market

Dodge Avenger and Nitro Headed for the UK Market
By Benjamin Hudson

Starting this summer, British car enthusiasts will have the chance to ride new vehicles from DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group division. Straight from the company's headquarters in Michigan, Chrysler Group will bring the new Dodge Nitro SUV and Dodge Avenger sedan to roll out in dealer showrooms all over the United Kingdom. Chrysler Group also released the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for the two vehicles.

According to Peter Lambert, Managing Director of Chrysler Group UK:

People want to drive a car that helps them to stand out from the crowd and still manages to offer great value for money. Our new Dodge vehicles deliver bold and aggressive styling together with masses of standard kit that make them both incredibly good value.

First off is the all-new 4-door Dodge Nitro sport utility vehicle (SUV). The vehicle retains its boxy and aggressive body styling with 20-inch and chrome-clad aluminum wheels and performance tires. Compared to the VW Touareg mid size SUV with trapezoidal VW grille, the new Nitro features Dodge's signature crosshair grille on its front fascia that marks the its identity.

In a world of mostly bland competitors, the Dodge Nitro has the design, engineering and performance to inspire drivers and shake up the mid-size SUV market, says Peter Lambert. The Nitro boasts excellent overall performance and competitive fuel economy, as well as a comprehensive range of safety, security and convenience features including the new Load N Go rear floor cargo system. he added

Available in three model trims, UK customers will have a choice of two power plants for the new Dodge Nitro: an all-new 2.8-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine and a 3.7-litre petrol engine.

The all-new 2.8-litre common-rail turbo diesel engine delivers 174 hp and produces 339 lb.-ft or peak torque, mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic gearbox. Meanwhile, the more powerful 3.7-litre SOHC V6 petrol engine pumps out 203 hp and produces 232 lb.-ft. amount of pulling force torque output. The engine is combined with a standard automatic transmission powering the vehicle's 4x4 drivetrain configuration.

The new Dodge Nitro will roll out in the UK market with the following MSRP: 2.8 CRD SE (MT) - 18,990 ($37,368 USD); 2.8 CRD SXT (MT) - 22,490 ($44,255 USD); 2.8 CRD SXT (AT) 23,490 ($46,223 USD); 3.7 SXT (AT) - 23,490 ($46,223 USD).

Meanwhile, the Dodge Avenger sedan comes in two model trim levels Avenger SE and Avenger SXT. Both models are available with either a petrol or a turbo diesel engine with 2.0 liter of displacement. The 2.0-liter petrol engine is capable of delivering 154 hp and produces 140 lb.-ft. amount of torque, coupled with a 5-speed automatic gearbox. Base MSRP for Dodge Avenger SE with 2.0-liter petrol engine is at 14,995 British pounds ($29,500 USD).

For fuel efficient customers, the 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine is available with power output of 38 hp and 229 lb.-ft. amount of torque, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. MSRP for the Dodge Avenger SE with this type of engine starts at 15,995 ($31,475).

Introducing the Dodge Caliber!

Introducing the Dodge Caliber!
By Matthew Keegan

The auto world is abuzz over a new car just recently released. The Dodge Caliber, a five door hatchback replacement for the popular Neon, has finally hit North American showrooms. The wait has been long especially since the last Neons were built for the 2005 model year. Still, judging by the press hoopla and by what the car has to offer, the pause certainly has been well worth it. Introducing, the 2007 Dodge Caliber!

Part of the buzz surrounding any new car introduction is all the speculation that comes with it. Pictures are released, performance information and specifications supplied, and in some cases the pending model hits the auto show circuit first to fuel additional interest. All of these points have rung true for the Caliber as the pre-release build up was percolating for a number of months. On a personal note, I was able to see a Caliber at a recent car show but I couldnt get near it as there were too many people gawking ahead of me -- such was the interest in the new model. Nevertheless, there are some things about the Caliber worthy of a mention:

Rakish good looks Dodges now famous crosshairs grille is the first thing you notice about the Caliber. Take a walk around the car and you will see that some of the same styling cues found in the Magnum were included with the Caliber.

Maximum driveability Prior to the Caliber, to find an all wheel drive version of a car of this size meant that only a Subaru could deliver on that promise. Parent DaimlerChrysler, anticipating that the car would be a world seller, had the presence of mind to offer front wheel drive as standard with all wheel drive as an option.

New powerplants For the first time, a new Chrysler product is available with three different engines. All gasoline powered, the engines range in size from a 1.8L fuel efficient model to a sporty 2.4L engine. No diesels are offered for the North American market just yet, but European Calibers will have that option as they hit the market later this year.

Modern sensibilities The complaint of many new car owners today is that some models are not keeping up with changing times. However, the Caliber adroitly satisfies those issues: a chilled storage bin is available inside of the glove box handy for holding cold drinks and the interior has been designed to have proper capacity for laptops, cell phones, and MP3 players. Additional cubbies as the Dodge sales material calls them, are found throughout the car.

Like the Neon, the Caliber has also been designed to hold five adults. Beyond that, there is absolutely nothing in common between the two models, exactly what DaimlerChrysler had in mind.

Prices for base models are competitive with Toyotas Corolla, but fully loaded all wheel drive versions will market in the same price range as a Camry or a Honda Accord. Therein rests a problem that DaimlerChrysler will have to quickly remedy: offer a second cheaper priced entry level model to bring in young buyers. Fortunately, the latest Dodge Buzz has talk of a Mexican built Scion fighter showing up within the next three years.

Yes, the Caliber certainly is a departure from the Neon, a welcome one at that. Should unit sales match all of the hype, then DaimlerChrysler will truly have a winner on its hands. Heres betting the good money on the Caliber!

Dodge Diesel Performance

Dodge Diesel Performance
By Nathan Young

The Dodge Cummins diesel is a favorite of many diesel enthusiasts because of how many modifications can be done to it. The Dodge Cummins diesel comes stock with great power and fuel economy and can be tweaked to get diesel fuel mileage in the upper twenties and some even report low thirties in mpg. That is phenomenal economy for a truck. They can also be turned into ground pounding monsters. Today we will take a look at a few of the modifications that can be done to make the vehicle either more economical or more powerful.

First the most popular modification for any diesel is a performance chip. These come in chips, modules and programmers. All have the same basic functions although they will all alter the fueling in slightly different ways and have a variety of safety features. Generally for a conservative driver, with almost any diesel chip about three to four mpg increases can be achieved. Most of these chips add about 120 horse power on their top setting. There are some extreme chips though that will add about 230 hp and over 400 torque to the dodge Cummins diesel.

Probably the second most popular modification for the Dodge Cummins Diesel is performance diesel fuel injectors. Upgraded injectors can also add economy for a conservative driver. The injectors come in stages that range from 50 hp to 150 hp over stock, and even more extreme injectors can be custom made. 50 hp injectors would be for someone looking for a little more power and better economy. 150 hp injectors would be considered extreme. They also come in complete injector replacements or just nozzle or injector tip upgrades.

For any diesel that is being modified, a higher flow exhaust should be added to help it keep exhaust gas temperatures down and to relieve engine stress. Most people upgrade the size of the entire exhaust from the turbo. Others use the Aero Exhaust which is a muffler replacement only. The design of the Aero Exhaust increases the speed of the exhaust like a jet would as the exhaust flows through it. On the 2005 Dodge Cummins diesel the Aero Exhaust adds 19 hp and 38 dyno tested torque by just replacing the muffler.

Another popular modification is the cold air intake which allows more air into the engine which helps to combust a higher percentage of the fuel. This gets more power to the wheels instead of out the tail pip in a big black cloud.

The Aero Exhaust and Diesel Performance Chips are basic Dodge Diesel Performance upgrades- Nathan Young

Dodge Avenge CommuterStress Grind

Dodge Avenge Commuter-Stress Grind
By Katie Jones

Commuters are traveling distances to make a living. Statistics say over 10 million consumers drive more than 60 minutes each way to work and research shows that commuting can take a toll on a consumer's health. This is the reason why commuting poses to be a daily grind on individuals.

In recognition of the National Stress Awareness Day on April 17, Dodge, a division of the Chrysler Group, is going great lengths to aid commuters to lessen the daily stress grind. In this regard, the automaker is inviting annoyed commuters to write an essay about why they believe they have the most stressful daily drive and are most deserving of a new car.

Participants can register and submit their entries online. During registration, participants will be asked to submit a 250-word essay answering the following questions: What makes your commute so stressful? and How would owning a 2008 Dodge Avenger relieve your stress? Participants must be 18 years or older, and a holder of a valid driver's license at the time of entry.

The lucky writer will be flown out to Los Angeles, a territory famed for the worst commute situations. There, the winner will take part in Dodges Avenge Your Commute special event scheduled Monday which falls on April 16. In the said event, the winner will also take home an all-new 2008 Dodge Avenger.

The new Avenger from the automaker offers more catchy Dodge body parts accented by new features like the Chill Zone(TM), a MyGIG Multimedia Infotainment Radio and a heated/cooled cupholder. The features are designed to alleviate the drive feel of car occupants at the same time reduce the stress of commuting. The automaker teams up with internationally renowned life coach, Dr. Martha Beck, to supply tips on improving some of the stress that goes along with battling bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Let's face it; not every commute is going to be a fast ride, said Beck, a best-selling author and columnist for O, The Oprah Magazine. Accepting that fact from the word 'go' is probably the most important thing we can do to keep our commuter-stress levels low. Then, when we're on the road dealing with slowdowns and pile-ups, we can use all kinds of strategies to get even more relaxed.

Beck added, Ultimately, even bumper-to-bumper gridlocks can become opportunities to get back in touch with ourselves and turn a potentially stressful situation into a positive experience. With a little conscious attention, the commute we've come to dread can become a genuinely enjoyable part of our lives.

Commuters are spending a lot of time in their cars each day and we believe it is important for them to be comfortable and confident that their car will get them to their destination safely, said Tom Loveless, the Director at Dodge Brand Marketing and Global Communications. The Dodge Avenger offers a perfect blend of reliability, innovative technologies and bold styling, which sets it apart from the other mid-size vehicles on the road. By awarding one lucky commuter with a new Avenger, we hope to help him or her jumpstart their commute, and make the ride more pleasurable and less stressful.

Mercedes BClass Begets the Dodge Hornet

Mercedes B-Class Begets the Dodge Hornet
By Matthew Keegan

The Mercedes B-Class, a line of compact cars about the size of a Volkswagen Golf, is expected to be imported to the U.S. market within one or two years time. This model is unusual in that it will be the first vehicle marketed by Mercedes in the U.S. that is not a true luxury car. Instead, the German automaker is hoping to capitalize on its venerable name by serving a greater share of the American populace by marketing a more ordinary model. Soon after the B-Class debut, yet another small vehicle derived from Mercedes will also make its appearance in the U.S.: the Dodge Hornet. Both the B-Class and Hornet are being developed to revolutionize their respective brands, pitting DaimlerChrysler against some of the leading youth brands in the world.

Not everyone thinks that it is a good idea for Mercedes to sell a budget model in the U.S., particularly one sporting the Mercedes marque. Yet, Mercedes has been building smaller models for years and in Europe the brand is known for producing luxury cars as well as vehicles for the masses. Indeed, Mercedes biggest adversary, BMW, also produces a line of small cars and is planning on bringing these vehicles to the U.S. shortly. Thus, like it or not, Mercedes must respond and the B-Class will be the answer.

For Mercedes, the B-Class likely to make it to the U.S. will be a four door sedan outfitted with a six cylinder gas engine. A hatchback, popular in Europe, will probably not be included in the deal knowing American consumers disdain for that particular body style. Diesel powered B-Class are a possibility and will become even more likely should BMW introduce the same.

For Dodge, the Hornet represents an answer to Scion and their line of youth oriented brands. While the Mercedes B-Class will likely appeal to VW and Nissan owners, the Hornet will target Scion owners as well as those inclined to purchase a Honda Element or other small, boxy vehicle. DaimlerChrysler, the owner of both Mercedes and Dodge, knows that the Hornet is necessary as the brands current entry level vehicle, the Caliber, is too expensive to compete against the lowest priced cars from Japan and Korea. Considering that Chinese cars selling for $8500 or less will also be arriving soon, DaimlerChrysler must respond and respond quickly with the Hornet.

While plans havent yet been finalized, the Hornet will likely strongly resemble the concept vehicle now on display at car shows around the country. This means that the Hornet will sport a 1.6L I4 mated to a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission, with a horsepower output of 170. With 19 inch tires, stow and go seating, and Saturn ION-like doors, the Hornet will not be confused with any other vehicle on the road which is exactly what Dodge hopes will happen.

To keep production costs down, DaimlerChrysler is looking for a manufacturing plant, probably in Mexico, to build the vehicle. Aiming to keep prices to around $10,000, DaimlerChrysler may tap Volkswagen to produce the vehicle at one of its own plants. This would enable VW to fill excess capacity and give DCX a readily available source to produce the Hornet.

Yes, the B-Class is poised to change the way American consumers think about the Mercedes brand while giving the make a chance to capture a broader chunk of the market. With the Hornet deriving its platform and other key components from the B-Class, Dodge will also benefit and be able to holds its own against Asian imports. Yes, both products present risky moves for parent DaimlerChrysler, one that the automaker must take in an ever changing and highly competitive world.

Keep Your Dodge Tires for a Long Time

Keep Your Dodge Tires for a Long Time
By Sarah McBride

The tires are very much known as the part of the vehicle that keeps the vehicle on the road and also helps in making the ride much more comfortable. Did you know that tires have rating systems? Well, this is quite true and these ratings are actually to provide information on the tires traction, tread wear, speed rating, load rating, and temperature resistance. You see, a cars performance is greatly affected by the type of tire that it has.

Vibration and shaking are two of the major problems that passengers could feel when a tire rotates. The best thing to do if you encounter a problem such as this would be to have your tires properly balanced. So how do you achieve this kind of balance for your tires? Try to position the weights of the wheel. By doing such, you actually counterbalance the heavy parts and spots of the whole wheel and tire assembly. You see, if your wheels are properly aligned, the angles of your wheels are adjusted so as to suit the correct positions of your vehicle. This move actually assists greatly in keeping your tires longer. However, wheel alignments should be done by a qualified technician.

The next question is, when you need to rotate your tires? Go check your owners manual. Information regarding this is included there. Find out how frequently do you need to rotate your tires and how do you go about it. You see, if you rotate your tires too much or not too often, your tires actually suffer and could get irregular wear and shorten its life.

If you accidentally get a punctured tire, do not be afraid to ask for assistance from qualified tire repair people. That way, they can actually estimate if the puncture is too large to be patched up or if the puncture is small enough that the tire can still run properly if repaired.

Dodge vehicles, just like any other vehicle, also rely on tires when it comes to performance. Statistics have it that when a tire is filled with too much air or when it riding flat, chances are that your vehicle and your pocket would suffer greatly. You see, your vehicle would have to feel every bump and turn on the road which could wear down the vehicles parts. Your pocket could also suffer for you would have to purchase replacement parts for the damaged ones. Also, if you drive with tires that are not inflated right, fuel is actually used up greatly which could result to you buying more gallons of gas.

With all the attention that the Dodge brand gives to each vehicle that they produce, it is only fitting that Auto Parts Deal offer top of the line Dodge replacement parts like tires and wheels to match their vehicles performance. The store holds various Dodge parts like wheel covers, bumper covers and projector headlights among many others.

A Wolf In Wolf's Clothing: The 2007 Dodge Charger

A Wolf In Wolf's Clothing: The 2007 Dodge Charger
By Saurabh Sharma

For the brave who crave cloth of a different cut than the status quo, it is possible to transcend the norm, to attain invincibility when behind the wheel of the stylish, mythic machine. Back in the 60s and 70s the Dodge Charger appealed to a certain segment of the population who craved the visceral feel of a two-door muscle car. Today, this heroic vehicle has been reinvented to charge past the competition from the Infiniti M35, Lexus GS300, Mustang GT, and the Chrysler 300 with three variations of engines. Although the 2007 Charger is a much different than the original Coke bottle design that was introduced in 1964, it still retains the spirit of the original. With broad shoulders in the front and rear quarter-panels cutting into the doors, the car looks like a linebacker in uniform. With a MSRP range between $22,570 $35,320, and a fuel efficiency of 17 mpg city/25 mpg highway, you almost need to be an extrovert to drive this modern interpretation of fastback design.

The 2007 Charger has been fortified with technologies to provide efficiency and unparalleled control from a thoroughly reinvented rear-wheel-drive technology, and its completely re-engineered engines. Step inside the car and youll not be disappointed. First, youll notice the large 60s inspired steering-wheel, large (vintage) air vents, clean and classy black on white rpm/speed dials, and supportive seats. The model we tested also had a DVD navigation system, and BOSE sound system which was an added plus. But with the engine turned on, the menacing howl will quickly make you forget all the refined creature comforts of the cabin.

Driver input is the name of the game for the 2007 Charger. Put the car in gear, lift your foot off the brake, and let the rapturous engine do the rest. The base Charger comes with a 3.5-liter SOHC, 24-valve V6, with 250 horsepower (250 pound-feet of torque driving through a five-speed automatic) that effectively feels like a V8. But if that isnt enough, there is the 5.7-liter Hemi V8, which puts 340 horsepower (with 390 pound-feet of torque) on the tarmac. At the top of the line, is the 6.1-liter Hemi SRT8 with 425 horsepower at 460 pound-feet of torque. These are incredible numbers. Both Hemi engines feature de-activation cylinder technology increasing the V8s fuel efficiency to 16 mpg city; 22 mpg highway. On our road test, we found the base V6 to have enough pep without compromising on fuel. Both the V8 Hemis seemed a bit too supercharged for todays roads, and geo political situation. At times, driving the Charger SRT8 with 425 horsepower felt like you were trying to control an overpowered carriage rather than enjoying the sporty ride.

The overall ride of the Charger is quite good, as its chassis and transmission are the same as Mercedes Benz E-Class. However, theres still a lot of body roll. The car is not as deft as it could be, this is partly due to its large size the 2007 Charger is 17 feet long and over 4,400 lbs in curb weight, so you do feel it while taking corners. The independent multi-link suspension with stout structural members makes for a stiffer body, but the torque-rich engine and the overall larger size do take some getting used to.

Choices abound when it comes to finding the right Charger that suits your needs. The new Charger is available in five trims: the SE, SXT, R/T, Daytona R/T and the SRT8. The models vary in engine size, but share the highest, five-star government front crash test ratings due to well-engineered crush zones, advanced multi-stage air bags (though side air-curtains are optional), and self-sealing tires. The ABS brakes are standard as well, but are not too communicative in reducing speed when the Dodge is really charging. The heavier car accelerates well, but doesnt decelerate with confidence. If going for the Hemi versions, it is recommended to opt for Viper calipers, given the Chargers torque and horsepower.

In 1973, Richard Petty commandeered the Dodge Charger to its last win at the Daytona 500. Individuality, muscle, and a timeless sense of freedom have always been associated with the Chargers heritage. The 2007 Dodge Charger succeeds in resurrecting a time when life was simple. Former owners of the Charger are now mature family folks who need the two extra doors. The 2007 Charger is a valiant attempt at bringing back the brave, the unbreakable, the insurmountable the all-American muscle car.

A Review of the 1990 Dodge Dakota

A Review of the 1990 Dodge Dakota
By Morgan Hamilton

The best car I have ever had has been serving me for 16 years now, which is my 1990 Dodge Dakota. It never let me down, although I have always been giving it hard time. And it has been so from the very beginning as I got my pick-up truck for work, not for show off. As a building contractor I have gone through 16 years of hard work, and my 1990 Dodge Dakota has been there all along the way. Working hard at least five days per week; moving from site to site, hauling tools, machines, supplies and everything else that you can think of.I have been pretty rough with my truck, throwing al the abovementioned in the back of it and rushing up and down, back and forth, sometimes even adding a trailer for the extras. Making sure that I was not being hard to it body only, but to the engine also, with the additional loads and chasing deadlines I was never disappointed with it. It has always been great and I do not want to let it go.

Everybody knows that older cars are much more expensive to maintain compared to the new ones, but I know that my 1990 Dodge Dakota still has a lot to give. But in the moment it is not the same truck any more. The engine loses power, especially when with heavier loads it even stalls from time to time. Considering that you can never imagine it unless it has really happened to you, I dare say that it is a scary thing to stall in the middle of nowhere in an old truck with a trailer at the back.

Not being any good for me now does not mean that it can not serve well someone else though. I hope that my 1990 Dodge Dakota will go to a student or a college boy, who will use it for moving his stuff to and from school, for picnics, to go to the football training with it and things like that. With easy jobs like these it will be still doing great and I am sure because for the same purpose I used my mother's minivan back in the days and if it could do then my Dodge can for sure. I also hope that the next owner of my 1990 Dodge Dakota will be nearly as happy with it as I were, it will be very sad if it gets wasted.

American Muscle: Ford Dodge and Chevy

American Muscle: Ford, Dodge, and Chevy
By Matthew Keegan

Back during the 1950s through the mid 1970s, Detroit automakers produced several cars that were out and out muscle cars. These types of vehicles shared the same characteristics: they were two door coupes with souped up engines, responsive transmissions, an aggressive exterior design, and a sporty interior. High fuel prices and changing tastes eventually limited sales to the point where only a few models were produced beyond that period of time. Today, muscle car mania is back, despite even higher gas prices. Thanks to the Ford Mustang and to a lesser extent to sedan and wagon models from Dodge, there is new interest in a category long given up. The future is bright for the muscle car segment as one more manufacturer, Chevrolet, considers bringing back one of its darlings of yesteryear, the Camaro.

Besides the Ford Mustang there were a whole host of vehicles produced that at one time or another might have been considered a muscle car. In addition to the Mustang, the Ford Fairlane 500 and Ford Torino did duty; the Mercury Montego was another model; Chevrolet produced the Camaro and Corvette; Pontiac the GTO, Firebird, and Tempest; Olds the 442; American Motors had its Javelin; Plymouth had the Cuda, and Dodge produced the Challenger and the Charger. Today, only the Mustang and Corvette survives although the Dodge Charger has returned as a four door muscle car along with its sibling, the hot Dodge Magnum wagon.

Interestedly, it took Fords redoing of the Mustang for the 2005 model year to stir the current muscle car era craze. Styled after Mustangs built in the 1960s, the current Mustang embraces a retro look while incorporating contemporary technology. The result has been that the Mustang currently sells its entire 150,000 model capacity without incentives.

The Mustang has been inspiring DaimlerChrysler to go ahead with a retro cruiser of its own. The Dodge Challenger concept car, appearing at auto shows across the USA, has been a huge hit and Chrysler plans on bringing the V8 hemi powered model back in 2009. In addition, General Motors is considering giving its blessing on the Camaro, another car also making the rounds of the USA auto show circuit.

So, isnt it silly to bring back such gas hogs? Back during the early 1970s, the then current crop of muscle cars averaged only 10-12 miles to the gallon around town and 15 or 16 miles per gallon on the highway. Thanks to computer technology and efficiency, even the Corvette returns a highly respectable 28 miles to the gallon the highway. So, although fuel mileage will certainly be lower than many other models, the new group of muscle cars will still better the previous generation cars with fuel mileage 80% or more above the cars from the 1970s.

Fortunately, we still live in a fairly free country and what the consumer wants, the consumer gets. So, V8 powered muscle cars mated to 6 speed manu-matic transmissions, with sport handling, bucket seats, and better fuel economy will likely appeal to many. No, they wont be exact duplicates of yesterdays muscle cars, but they will provide the nostalgia and power that motorists seek. I cant wait!

2010 Dodge Challenger: Back to the Future!

2010 Dodge Challenger: Back to the Future!
By Matthew Keegan

Blogs, car sites, and auto shows have been hyping up the concept Dodge Challenger to the point where you would think that the car is almost ready to roll off of a DCX assembly line. To say that the prototype is being well received is an understatement -- quite frankly if the Challenger was available for sale today the waiting list would be many months long. Such is the demand for a retro car that takes its styling cues right from the 71 Challenger.

As it currently stands, the car will be built as DaimlerChrysler has given its blessing to the new Challenger. Still, the Challenger is more than three years from being manufactured as it is likely to be released some time during 2009 as a 2010 model. Yes, the wait will be hard for many, but if the hype equals the performance, then the wait will certainly be worth your while.

Some people are against the whole retro car revolution. Citing that Detroit must reach back in time to make relevant cars is a testimony to the each automakers woes. On the contrary, I believe the many revived models currently being planned or already on our streets is a clear testimony to Detroit finally listening to its customers: we want cars that are uniquely styled and we want them to perform exactly the way you will say they will perform. No fake hood scoops, no heralded model name slapped on a car that pales in comparison to the original. No, we dont want you to build the original model we want you to build the original model better. Take the styling cues and run with them and incorporate modern technology to improve upon the original design. Thats all we ask.

So, just what can enthusiasts expect when they take delivery of their Challenger? Well, like I said the car is still in the planning stages, but what I have gleaned from various sites is the following information:

Modified Platform -- If you like the Mercedes based LX platform currently used to run the Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum, and Dodge Charger then the LY platform will suit you too. DCX is planning to modify the LX platform for its next generation of vehicles and the LY based Challenger will be one of many cars built upon it. Some have suggested that the LY will be the LX on steroids, whatever that means.

Did Someone Say Hemi? -- Every Mopar product of significance will have optional Hemi power and the Challenger is no exception. Expect a V6 to be standard with the optional Hemi V8 for performance versions of the car. Some have suggested that the 425 h.p. SRT 6.1L V8 will also be made available for the Challenger.

Ragtop Regalia -- Chrysler says that the Sebring will be its only convertible offering, but that leaves Dodge dealers without a soft top car to market [other than the Viper, of course . Despite this bit of information, look for a Challenger convertible to show up one or two years after the cars debut. Heck, if DCX doesnt want to build one then aftermarket coach builders will do the job for them. You can bet that Dodge dealers will make these arrangements if DCX doesnt.

Yes, the Challenger wont be in new car showrooms any time soon. For those of us waiting with baited breath well have to console ourselves with the many blogs, sites, and car shows hyping the car. Other than that, just imagine your shiny new Challenger stopped at a traffic light with a Mustang on one side and a Camaro on the other side

Dodge Ford to Build Scion Fighters?

Dodge, Ford to Build Scion Fighters?
By Matthew Keegan

Toyotas Scion brand has been a runaway hit for the Japanese automaker ever since being launched in 2003. Designed to appeal to Generation Y buyers, the vehicles are popular, edgy some would say ugly and have given Toyota an important toehold with young buyers. GM, Ford, and Chrysler are preparing to respond to Scion, but in different ways. GM is planning to import more vehicles from its Daewoo subsidiary while Ford and Chrysler are expected to build all new Scion fighting vehicles in Mexico, good news for motorists looking for affordable and quality vehicles. Lets take a look at whats coming down the pike.

For the record, Scion isnt the only vehicle made for the Generation Y crowd. Hondas Element and soon to be released Fit subcompact are Scion competitors while the Chevy Cobalt, Dodge Caliper, and Saturn ION are also aimed toward youthful drivers. With that being said, Dodge [Chrysler and Ford must respond and it appears that both automakers will be fielding Scion fighters within the next two years.

The Dodge Hornet

Lo and behold, Dodge is nearing the finalization of its plans to build the Dodge Hornet. According to industry sources including Edmunds, the Hornet will be based on the VW Polo, a subcompact car built by Volkswagen and popular in the European market. This deal is amazing as Volkswagen and Mercedes [a DaimlerChrysler division, as is Dodge compete fiercely, especially in Europe. VW has a plant in Mexico that likely will produce the Hornet as the company has excess capacity and the cost advantage that no American manufacturing plant can offer. For its part, VW gets to sell rebadged versions of the Dodge Caravan minivan.

If based on the Polo, the Hornet is expected to use the Polos 1.6L engine and be paired with a VW transmission. Beyond that, look for the vehicle to be closer in appearance to the Scion xA design, sport a five door hatchback design, and seat five passengers. Currently, the xA sells for just over $13,000, so expect the Dodge to compete at or below the Scion price.

The Ford Bronco

Dont expect Ford to sit back and watch from the sidelines as the market trends toward more Scion-like vehicles. In 2004 a concept Ford Bronco, taking styling cues from the 1966 Bronco truck, made its appearance at auto shows. Now, Ford appears ready to go ahead with the Bronco which will also be built in Mexico.

Featuring a boxy design, the Bronco will be similar in design to the xB and to the Hornet and will likely be built on the existing Fiesta platform to hold costs down. Indeed, Ford is hoping that a budget Bronco will sell for less than $10,000 as it battles cheap imports expected from China as well as other Generation Y vehicles on the market.

Yes, the car wars never end and more battles are certain to ensue. Both Nissan with its Versa and a tiny Toyota by the name of Yaris will soon be released and competing on the market before the Hornet and Bronco arrive in 2008 as 2009 models.

The Continuous Challenges of the Dodge Challenger

The Continuous Challenges of the Dodge Challenger
By Terry Brown

In the automobile world, there have been many vehicle names that come and go and then later would come back as another model. Or there are vehicle names that are used by different vehicles all at the same time. This case of confusion and double naming has also happened to the Dodge Challenger. For this vehicle, there have been two different models that held the same name. The first vehicle lived from 1970 to 1974 while on the other hand, the other Dodge Challenger lived from 1978 up until 1983. Both vehicles were marketed and ran under the umbrella of Chrysler Corporations Dodge division during the 1970s.

The first model of the Dodge Challenger was an entry to the pony car segment in the United States. It was actually based on the Plymouth Barracuda which used the same E-body platform that this vehicle, the Dodge Challenger, was mounted on. As per the second model, this vehicle was actually a revision and a version of the Mitsubishi Galant Lambda coupe which was sold in other areas of the world as the Mitsubishi Sapporo. The Dodge Challenger was marketed as a vehicle that held a sporty appeal, bright colors, and unique tape stripes.

During the 2006 North American International Auto Show, Dodge introduced another Dodge Challenger. However, this time around, it was introduced as a concept vehicle. According to the company, this Dodge Challenger, if it would go into production, would be mounted on the Chrysler LY platform. And this would possibly be fulfilled come the year 2008.

The Dodge Challenger has been used in various media especially broadcast media. It has appeared in music videos as well as in films. It was on Audioslaves Show Me How To Live music video. It also made its appearance in films like Vanishing Point (1971), Gone in 60 Seconds (1974), Natural Born Killers (1994), Terminal Velocity (1994), Drive (1997), Vanishing Point Remake (1997), 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), and Just Married (2003).

Dodge Buzz: Upcoming Models

Dodge Buzz: Upcoming Models
By Matthew Keegan

DaimlerChryslers Dodge division has certainly been making a name for itself over the past decade. No longer in the shadow of Chrysler or a carbon copy of Plymouth, Dodge has its own vehicles stamped with its own unique personality. The Charger is Dodges latest hot model; what can Dodge do for an encore? Read on for all the exciting details!

Caliber The compact Neon is dead and a replacement vehicle is waiting in the wings by the name of Caliber. Sporting Dodges signature crosshair grille, the Caliber resembles a Chrysler Pacifica but it is in the Chrysler PT Cruisers size range. This five door wagon-like vehicle features jacked up wheel arches and a sloped roofline that tapers off to a rear hatch spoiler. On demand all wheel drive is expected to be one of the cars options. Built on a Mitsubishi Lancer platform, the Caliber has been planned to go toe-to-toe with the VW Golf and Mazda 3. The Caliber is expected to debut in early 2006 as a 2007 model.

Nitro Dodge gets a small SUV, the Nitro which is a rebadged and slightly reworked Jeep Liberty. As is customary with all contemporary Dodges, the Nitro sports the Dodge crosshair grille and unique wheel arches. Everything else about the Nitro is expected to be virtually the same as the Liberty including engine and transmission choices. The Nitro is expected to debut late in 2006.

Charger Coupe Okay, I am dreaming. So are a lot of other people who are just itching for Dodge to release a two door version of the awesome Charger. The word about Charger is this: half the people like the sedan and the other half are disappointed it wasnt developed as a coupe. No confirmation has been made, but a coupe may show up in late 2007 joining with [not replacing the current sedan.

Love Those Vans Chrysler is nearing the end of the life cycle for the current crop of minivans which still outsells any competitor on the market. Stow N Go has been such a popular hit that any redesign will be built around this nifty feature. Expect the newest rendition of the Caravan and the Chrysler Town and Country to show up some time in 2008.

So, there you have it. The division that at one time gave us the Aries K and Omni now features the Viper, Ram, Dakota, Durango, and a host of other exciting vehicles. Dodge fans are pinching themselves hoping that it isnt all a dream. Well, it isnt and the upcoming models promise to uphold Dodge's new found place in The Chrysler Group.
